Single-Game tickets for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (triple-A Phillies) inagural season go on sale tomorrow and it's their National Pig Day celebration  - complimentary food (a pig roast!) and Coca-Cola Park beverages, appearances by the IronPigs mascot Ferrous and a variety of activities for children including pig crafts, IronPigs tattoos and a chance to pin the tail on Ferrous.

btw, the team name, selected by a public vote from the community, was derived from "Pig Iron" -- the raw iron melted down to make the steel that was once the leading industry in the Lehigh Valley

Phillies Citizens Bank Park Food Concessions and Ashburn Alley

You know I love it when a venue has a food concessions guide - thank you, Philles. Food and beverages at Citizens Bank Park can be found at permanent locations, numerous portable stands and two restaurants. Here's the Phillies Concessions Guide.

Alley Hour Concession specials are available each game for the first hour Ashburn Alley is open. Specials will be posted at the Ashburn Alley and Left Field Gate, which opens every day 2 1/2 hours prior to game time. What is Ashburn Alley, you ask? It's a "festive outfield entertainment area named in honor of Phillies legend Richie Ashburn." 

That means there's an All-Star Walk, Bullpens View, Games, Memory Lane, Walk of Fame, and Rooftop Bleacher Seats - the Phillies brought back rooftop seating, a Shibe Park phenomenon of the 1920s when residents of 20th Street built bleachers on top of their roofs. A total of 199 guests can enjoy this unique setting nestled under the Liberty Bell.

But wait; there's more...Power Tickets. All Power Tickets (a regular ticket that costs $10 more) include a $10 concession credit. The $10 credit may be used throughout the ballpark for food, beverage and merchandise at any Aramark concession stand (excludes Build-A-Bear workshop and McFadden’s). The credit is valid only on the game date stated on the ticket. Simply present your ticket to a concessions attendant for redemption.

Here's another insane fact about the Daytona Superstretch Terrace Club...
If you went left on this buffet line (left), you could get rice and a sort of beef stew. If you went right, you could get a grayish vegetable thing, the beef stew, and chicken. Sheesh! And you really have to choose wisely because there's no way you're standing in line a second time - everyone's starving because of the lack of continuous food.

Jay (pictured right) went left and got no chicken. I went right and got no rice.

Speaking of Jay, TFMJ and I were lucky enough to hook up with Jay and his wife Joie. These two lovely Ohioans shared their outdoor table with us and we four talked about 80's bands (and some 90's ones too), conferences, traffic, food transportation, cities and suburbs, and, of course, the excellent potty situation.

Las Vegas 51's Thursday Dollar Beer Nights

The Las Vegas 51s (triple-A Dodgers) will open their 26th Pacific Coast League season at home against the Salt Lake Bees (tripleA Angels) on Thursday April 3rd at 7:05pm.

Dollar Beer Night will be presented at every this and every Thursday home game throughout the 2008 campaign.

There must be some hot summer games in Vegas, huh?

I was just watching an episode of Las Vegas (a show I did once enjoy but have not seen in quite awhile - since when is Magnum on it? between him and the Tad Hamilton Transformers guy it's like the hottest TV show around). Anyway, there was a 2-on-2 half court thing going on in the episode and of course there was gambling (and slight mystery) which got me thinking about the lack of professional sports in Vegas. I mean, they have some minor league hockey and obviously baseball, and they had the NBA All-Star Game there last year. A real team could be there; is it really the possibility of gambling that keeps MLB, NFL, etc away?

Daytona Superstretch Club's Best Asset: the Potty

there's no question that the best feature of the Daytona International Speedway Superstretch Terrace Club is its potty trailer, and a potty is an important part of eating and drinking.

it may not look like much from the outside (left) but check out what's inside (right).

it's so fancy it's hard to believe. sure it's all faux, and sure it feels like the whole thing is about to tumble down whenever anyone walks, or when the wind blows, but at least you're going down in style.

Daytona Superstretch Club: a Super Scam

I know, I know...I should have learned my lesson about Fancy Seats last year in Tampa. What can I say  - I'm a glutton (pun intended) for punishment.  Also, I'm a bit vulnerable/gullible when it's weeks and months before an event I'm excited about. Those racetickets guys really deserve their paycheck - they sold me pretty good.

So here's the deal in Daytona...and I can guess the Frontstretch Club is similar to the Superstretch Club but please let me know if that's not right by leaving a comment below...
For something like $200 (estimate based on actual price of ticket and what was part of it), TFMJ and I had 8 cans of Miller Lite (the allotted amount), and about 8 sodas and waters. Additionally, I had a roll with dillweed, a tong-ful of salad, two halves of a brownie, and a bone-in chicken breast. TFMJ had two biscuits with gravy (breakfast leftovers), a chicken thigh, some sort of beef stew, and a spoonful of white rice.

Breakfast was served around 9am, and mostly cleared by 11:30am when we arrived. No food - not chips, not nuts, not popcorn, not anything - was served again until 1pm.

It was cool that Dale Jarrett was speaking when we arrived, and it was cool to have tables and chairs, and napkins, and it was cool to hear some live music, and there was an excellent bathroom situation, and we did get 2 programs ($15) and 2 little racecars, and 2 koozies (3, actually, because the guy was nice to me) but holycow were we starving.

The racetickets people convinced me that we'd be saving money because of the endless food. They also conned me into believing we'd get that free food both in the Club and at the Sprint FanZone. Not true. They neglected to tell me that the Club would be a 20-minute walk to our seats. No doubt some Frontstretch Club attendees had the same problem.

My advice, if you really want to patronize the Clubs, go early for breakfast and stuff yourself, see who will be speaking, walk around, stuff yourself and your pockets with soda and water, then stuff yourself with lunch, and use the potty as much as possible - that's actually the best part.

Aramark to be Caterer of 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) announced recently that Aramark Corporation will be the official catering service provider for 2008 Summer Games.

I am so excited to find out what this means. Will Aramark serve up local specialties like Beijing Duck? Yum. I seriously can't think of anything more delicious, and you can get it in about a zillion different places in Beijing. But more on that later.

Joseph Neubauer, Aramark's Chairman and CEO has said, “Our people are dedicated to delivering a world-class experience that reflects our expertise in serving customers globally, as well as in China.” Which I thinks means China is not on the globe; which makes sense in some ways.

This is the 14th time Aramark has been at the Olympic Games. According to the agreement, Aramark together with their partner Beijing Tourism Group will provide catering services for the Athletes’ Village, Media Villages, International Broadcast Center and the Main Press Center at the 2008 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing.  That's estimated to be more than 3.5 million meals throughout the 60-day duration of both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In addition, Aramark will manage the design and construction of the kitchen and dining facilities for the Olympic catering venues.
That is cool.

No Food and No Swearing at Tucson Electric Park

Food and beverages cannot be brought in to the ballpark. NO FOOD ALLOWED! We will allow food for babies as long as it is in plastic containers. Only one factory sealed bottle of water per person is allowed. Sidewinders Management must approve special food needs in advance. Please call 434-1021

Instead...Enjoy Signature Food items, such as Hot Legs, Snake Bites and Snake Bread at the Signature Food Concession Stand located behind section 114. What are these wonderful sounding eats?

Also: Zero tolerance for foul language. If you are found to be in violation of this policy you will be asked to leave. Fans are asked to report any abusive language to the nearest usher. [the Scoreboard Gourmet absolutely Loves this rule and thinks it should be instituted all over baseball and other sports. she does realize that it may put her at risk from time to time but believes it's worth it]
