Serena loses to Katarina Srebotnik at Roland Garros

PARIS (Reuters) - A new women's champion will be crowned at Roland Garros this year after fifth seed Serena Williams crashed out 6-4 6-4 to Slovenia's Katarina Srebotnik in the third round on Friday.

There are also five gourmet kiosks, while la Terrasse (200 seats), situated below the Suzanne-Lenglen court is sure to tempt you with its savoury tarts, flavoured pizzas or grilled meats. Lastly, the stadium boasts a regular sprinkling of snack bars, serving sweet or salty snacks, drinks and also punnets of strawberries.

Strawberries in May in France rock. I'm pretty sure they mostly(all?) come from Carpentras, in Provence. Get yourself a punnet (which is a little basket).

MLB Charity Wines - Longball Cellars

Abreu's Finest Merlot - it's a 2006 Merlot from San Martin, CA that benefits the Police Athletic League.

CaberReyes (Jose Reyes) - a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon also from San Martin, CA to benefit Major League Players Trust.

Captain's Cabernet (Jason Varitek) - this is a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from Healdsburg, CA that gives to Pitching In For Kids.

Jorge Cabernet (Jorge Posada) - a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from San Martin, CA benefitting the Jorge Posada Foundation.

Brian Schneider does have a chardonnay Schneider Schardonnay - (a 2006 Chard from San Martin, CA) - but I don't see it available online. Hmm. This wine exists to benefit Catching for Kids. The MLB site says you can buy these wines in local stores. I have to look around and get back to you on that.

Hat Trick Cellars - hockey's charity wines

Bourque Merlot (as in Ray Bourque) and Cambernet (Cam Neely) are two Hat Trick Cellars wines, both produced for the benefit of charities.

Bourque is a 2005 California Merlot. Supposedly it pairs well with 'many' foods. The purchase of this wine sends money to the Celebrities For Charities Foundation, which funds hundreds of small causes. It's $13.99.

Cambernet is a 2005 California Cabernet Sauvignon, "perfect with any grilled meat or Italian dish."
Proceeds go to The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care, The Neely House and The Neely Cancer Fund, all of which assist cancer patients and their families during treatment.
Not sure it's currently in stock. :(

Also, sales of Bourque Merlot and Cambernet benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation.

Perrier - the official bubble of tennis

Am I going crazy or are my pictures gigantic these days? I mean, I love a big glass of sparkling water, but this is too much.

Anyway, I have some things to say about Perrier, the official drink of Roland Garros and tennis in general. The official bubble, as they say.

I love Perrier. Sometimes I go Italian with my sparking water but there's nothing like a little bottle of Perrier. In France you can get Perrier in a can, which tastes like soda water in a can, and makes me wonder if they whole reason I love Perrier at home is the fact I cannot get it in anything but a delicious flavor-free glass bottle?
Actually, that's not true, we can get the plastic bottles here.
But glass is best. And cans are as bad as all cans.

Today's matches at Roland Garros begin in 15 minutes, if the rain in Paris subsides.

The majority of the Hawks Nest is for our group outings. That said, the Hawks Nest bar area is available with a reservation. Any tables not in use are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Is outside food allowed?

No. We do, however, make exceptions for medical reasons.

The first 1,000 kids 14-and-under will get this somewhat scary looking bobblehead to take home and treasure (read: collect dust and take up space. not that my home isn't full of this kind of crap, just that I wish it wasn't. why can't we say no to freebies? we are living in a material world, still. They should give away hot dogs.)

It figures that beer at Madison Square Garden costs more than it’s worth – so do the guys playing for the Knicks.  It ranges from $7.25 for domestic (Bud, Bud Light, Coors) to $8.55 for imported (Heineken, Amstel, Pilsner). The non-specialty drafts are all $8.25. But the worst deal in town now comes with a pretzel rod, which fits in the hollow handle of the plastic beer mug! This has been hailed by Scoreboard Gourmet blogger Sara Pepitone as “the best food-related concession item at Madison Square Garden”—which is saying very little. “You can keep your mug, which is about as useful as keeping any plastic cup from a game except that this one has no logo,” says Pepitone, whose apartment is full of plastic game cups. A Wisconsin visitor who took in a Knicks game wrote: “I was completely smitten with the beer/pretzel cups when I was at the Garden this last weekend.”  But remember, she’s from Wisconsin.
