from Crains by Valerie Block...The hottest place to go for a meal this spring may be Citi Field. Foodies can add Drew Nieporent, owner of Nobu, Tribeca Grill and several other fine dining establishments, to the list of top restaurateurs heading out to the ball field to run an eatery. He joins Danny Meyer, whose Shake Shack and Blue Smoke will be among the choices at the Mets' new stadium, which opens in April.
Mr. Nieporent's Myriad Restaurant Group is in negotiations with food-service provider Aramark to take over management of the Left Field Restaurant, says a source familiar with the plans. The full-service restaurant with giant plate-glass windows overlooking the diamond will be named Acela, after the high-speed Amtrak train.
The contract has yet to be signed. The parties “haven't gotten to third base,” says the source, who notes that details like restaurant design are still being worked out. But industry bigs like Mr. Nieporent are attracted to the project because of its focus on local eateries, the source says. Myriad Group did not return calls for comment.
