Seeing Red: Fort Myers Spring Training Blunder

I mean, I get it, Red Sox v Reds, but this is so dumb. Who could possibly have felt it was reasonable to have the only differention between the teams be the slightly more bleached (white) pants of the Red Sox?

In case you can't tell who's batting and who had bases loaded, that's Jason Varitek at bat. This is City of Palms Park, Fort Myers. Varitek is about to hit a sac fly to left field. Jacque Jones will catch it. He's a new favorite of SG.

p.s. $5.25 for italian sausage (right picture); line justified; better than hot dogs of any size, and I think I know why. hint: oink.

Marlins fan with insider snack food knowledge

This young man is a big Marlins fan, and a friend of the players.

His mom owns a convenience store. She knows about all kinds of sweet and salty snacks, and she has some great stories to tell about sharing said snacks with various members of the Marlins.

I met them during a Mets autograph ambush in Port St Lucie, though all of us had earlier been at a Cardinals-Marlins game in Jupiter. I'm hoping they'll write in soon so I can share their stories with You.

Best Food Concession at Orioles Spring Training?

How great is this little set up at Fort Lauderdale Stadium? You have to go to right field general admission to see it, but it's worth the walk (though you'll have to convince the ticket people to let you in; I'm still miffed about the disconnected stadium at Orioles Spring Training). Beer $6, Peanuts $4. They're Mickey's peanuts and they are saltily delicious.

Spring Training Autograph Ambush

so far we had the fun of accidentally joining memorabilia dealers and tourists (fans) for post-game, catchplayersintheircars, Autograph Ambush. Hilarious and strangely exhilarating (not that I either chased a car or sought an autograph because, for me, someone's signature has little meaning, though I do love my Andy Phillips ball.)

Speaking of Andy Phillips (as a former Red), the pictures for this post were taken in Sarasota (home of Reds Spring Training), but I have a great Mets/Port St Lucie/local Jupiter family story to tell when I'm not running out the door to get orange juice and see another game. Come back for that, and please share your own authograph tales.

Pretty sure that's Jacque Jones in the truck on the right. Don't forget to eat chili dogs when you're at Ed Smith Stadium; Skyline Chili, of course.

Sno Cones in Spring Training

are there sno cones in regular baseball? MLB?

These pictures were taken at Hammond Stadium (Twins spring training; Fort Myers Miracle regular season) but I also saw the sweets at Steinbrenner Field and Fort Lauderdale Stadium, and I'm sure they are not the only pushers of sno. But what about regular season? The Twins announcer told us there was 7 inches of snow in the Twin Cities today. Maybe we only need sno / snow in places where it's always (theoretically, wishfully, vactationfully) sunny and 82?

p.s. that's Posada at the plate; the only real member of the team in Fort Myers. And by real I of course mean someone whose number isn't in the 70's, which doesn't mean I dislike Juan Miranda (#72 who had a big double in the 7th), or Doug Bernier (#73 who walked in the 8th), or Justin Leone (#74 who started at 3rd and hit a home run), or Francisco Cervelli (#75 who started catching while Posada was DH), or Kevin Russo (#76 who was out by a step after a swinging bunt in the 8th). And I don't have to tell you about Austin Jackson (#82 we love him in the field actually) but maybe you need to hear about Eduardo Nunez (#92 who TFMJ says I called "our new star" after watching him hit)
