Thermals and Hot Chocolate at Yankee Stadium

Sgcold

Lately I've been thinking about things like babies wrapped in blankets and sleeping-bag-looking things while in strollers. It makes sense that someone who is not moving very much (not getting their blood running) would be colder than someone who is moving very much (the person pushing the stroller, the person running the bases).

That's why I (pictured) planned to bring a blanket to the game.
Somehow, though, I forgot the blanket. But TFMJ's situation was worse: he didn't have a long-sleeved shirt. Yes we had to spend $45 on a Yankees Thermal for him. And we weren't the only ones.

Sghotch

We also weren't the only ones on line for Hot Chocolate, which is $2.50 and is not really Chocolate as much as powder, but it's nice to hold in your cold hands. I watched some women 'making' the Hot Chocolate. They dumped two packages of powder into the dispenser. The packages do not say 'Nestle' though the dispensers do. I did not see water added. I assume the water comes from the bowels of the stadium though a pipe to a tube and somewhere along the way it's heated. Yum.
Coffee is also $2.50.

Scoreboard Gourmet's First Anniversary

Cake is it First Birthday? How does one determine that? I have to guess a birthday is the anniversary of a birth, right? So today is both.

I figured we needed a cake to celebrate. That's the cake from a wedding we went to in Key West last year. Obviously I'd had a drink or two to think it was an interesting picture. Forgive me.

Tonight, in honor of SG's First Anniversay, I am having a real Scoreboard Gourmet experience with a new friend. She is a big NBA fan, which is good for me. We're going to BLT Prime (111 E. 22nd Street, NYC) to watch the 55-and-15 Celtics play the 47-and-23 Suns. I'll report later.
Now I'll mention that TD Banknorth Garden, home of the Celtics and Bruins, is the HQ of Delaware North's Boston operations. Yes, it's in that awesome cookbook. Wait - have I mentioned the excellent Delaware North cookbook - Home Plate; from hot dogs to haute cuisine?  Boston Garden (I mean TD Blahblah Garden, of course) recipes include: Bock Beer Poached Shrimp, and Wild Mushroom Pork Belly Risotto.

But let's talk about me. In the past year of SG's existence I've been to stadiums, ballparks and arenas in California, Florida, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. What am I forgetting? When was Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois and Maryland? Have to think about that. So many places to visit. This year SG will go to the new Nationals Ballpark, more Double-A, more Triple-A, and more NFL - we're thinking Raiders/Jets in Oakland, for one. But that's a future discussion.

SG currently has 100's of visitors a day, the majority of which are not friends or family. How amazing is that? A number of people have signed up for SG's first promotion: the Yankees Ticket Giveaway, and I've been interviewed twice for publications not related to me.

All in all it's been a great year. And if Andy Phillips makes it to the Reds we'll be all set - though TFMJ and I were discussing a possible Memphis trip, maybe we can add Louisville if necessary (home of Reds triple-A), maybe we'll drive, it's less than 400 miles. Hmm.

Dear Readers, thank you for reading and for coming back. Please continue to leave comments and ask questions of me. I look forward to our continuing relationship....and to Opening Day at Yankee Stadium...5 more days....Wang is scheduled to pitch...hopefully it won't be freezing.

Cheerios, Bobby Labonte, and me

Sgblyes that's me and Bobby Labonte.

what do you think about that?

my Cheerios t-shirt is way better than any other Cheerios shirt the Bobby Labonte people have for sale. and it barely fits me; two or three more bowls of cereal and it's done.

Beach Pit Chili Cheese Fries at Angels Stadium

AngelchilchfryAngels Stadium has many fan service/information booths, and the staff is lovely. A friendly guy at a post in the Tier sent me down to the field level in search of Nachos Angelinos (Angelinos Nachos?). He told me that was probably the most unique, most Angels food item in the ballpark.

I, however, was too dumb to find them - you have to walk 'outside' the park (as if exiting but not) to that food court.
Instead I got Beach Pit Chili Cheese Fries. I am not exaggerating when I tell you this $5.75 snack is a 5-pound meal. That's me in the picture. I've already eaten about 1 pound of it and look how much is left.

Beach Pit also has Sweet Potato Fries and/or Regular Boring Fries (their name) for $3.75. And it's a real restaurant too. In fact, the Angels Outpost is new (if you click the above link you can read all about it).

what SG ate at a Cyclones game

BcmeDid You think I wasn't getting popcorn? I love popcorn, remember?

This is a small box. It's $3 at Cyclones (shortseason-A Mets) games. TFMJ bought me this koozie. He's the best. It's $4. Warning: if You buy a Corona or any other glass-bottle of beer, you cannot use your koozie because the vendor will pour your beer into a plastic cup. Beer at Cyclones games is $5.50.

Arnold Palmer, An

Apdrink

Many people know that an Arnold Palmer is one of my favorite drinks. And now it's available in bottle or can thanks to the good (read: high fructose corn syrup loving) people of Arizona Iced Tea. According to them, this "tee" is a beverage Arnold "enjoys frequently."

For the sake of Scoreboard Gourmet, I overlooked the HFCS and gave Arnold Palmer a try. And for the people who have been asking for pictures of me, here's one of me actually consuming the ultra-sweet, chemical-tasting tea-lemonade. I just had a haircut and I'm standing in Mercer County Waterfront Park, home of the Trenton Thunder.Apme

Shop MLB; Think Halloween

Go see the Specialty Shops at MLB.com, the official site of Major League Baseball.

I'm curious to see if anyone clicks on these links to the MLB store. I'm thinking Halloween. Maybe because it's finally not 200° here. Caramel Apples, yum. Two months is quicker than you might think. You already know what my costume was last year...let that be an inspiration, and let me know if You think dressing as a player is a good idea.

From Abreu to Zambrano, find your favorite players Jersey at the MLB.com Shop.

I'm an Aunt! to a baby Mets fan!

what else can I say? Simon, the newest Mets fan, was born at 9:33a. I'll get a picture up soon. I got him a bib, that's food-related. And, if he's anything like his father, his favorite ballpark eat will be sausage.

Changes at SG

Please be patient, and ignore the ugly lack of format, and my incomplete right column...I am attempting to Upgrade which seems to first require massive Downgrading. You can still read everything, though the Labels Link is gone. And, come back in a few days when I hope to be fully functional and beautiful again.

SG now accepting Anon comments...talk to me

against my better judgment I am now going to allow anonymous comments on Scoreboard Gourmet. why is that against my better judgment? because I really believe that anyone who has a voice also has a name. I do not think people should hide behind the seeming anonymity of the internet. so why am I allowing it? because I know it's a total pain to register or whatever you have to do to leave a simple comment. that's my answer: ease of use.

to be clear: say whatever you want, comment however you wish, bash me, love me, tell me what You ate at the game, just remember that there is no shame in admitting who you are.

on that note, did anyone read the SI piece about the A's players who live together and one of them cooks Cajun or something?
