Grub at local stadiums is grub-free, says the NY Daily News

Rich Schapiro has alerted me (and now you) to Jessica Liebman's Foul Ballpark story. Actually, a Scoreboard Gourmet reader sent the DN story to me, and now I'm sharing it with you.

Rtraps Here's Rich's story: Don't be afraid to eat the hot dogs and pretzels at Yankee and Shea stadiums. They're among the cleanest ballparks in the nation, according to an analysis by Portfolio magazine.
As New York fans watch their beloved teams from near-gleaming stadiums, several teams in the south and west play in ballparks mired in filth.

California-based stadiums have the worst health records, according to an analysis of violations in 2007. The Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland A's "had far more food fouls than any other team," the magazine says in its June issue. "While most were minor, some were, well, disgusting." Angels Stadium racked up a whopping 732 violations last year, including a cockroach infestation in the Stadium Club kitchen last August. There was also a major vermin violation in April that forced the shutdown of a food stand.
The A's McAfee Coliseum reported 493 violations, several of which came from food being exposed to "overhead leakage, dirt, insects, rodents and chemical contamination."

Shea Stadium, on the other hand, had only 58 violations in 2007 – though there was evidence of mice, rats and flying insects found in food areas during a June inspection. Yankee Stadium had an even cleaner record last year. It was cited for a mere 45 violations.

The cleanest of the 11 stadiums analyzed was Coors Field, the home of the Colorado Rockies. It was hit with only 16 violations.

Here's a link to Jessica's story. She says, "in some stadiums, the rats and flies have pretty good seats."

Guess those rat traps (pictured) at Yankee Stadium really work. Enjoy your lunch.

Tastiest Ballpark Eats, says Wine X, Part 1

Here's why the internet is so great...I was searcing for something completely unrelated to Scoreboard Gourmet and I found something on winexmagazine.com that's perfect for me (and You):
The Wine X Guide to Gourmet Eats at the Country's Tastiest Ballparks (!):

Anaheim Angels
Shredded-beef tamales.

Arizona Diamondbacks
Find the “Fielder’s Choice” farmers’ market or slurp down a smoothie. For a little less sobriety, try the Sonora and Fat Tire microbrews.

Atlanta Braves
Why brave a hot dog when there’s grilled chicken, veggie wraps, fruit and cheese plates, and fresh fruit smoothies? The park also features an upscale wine bar on the Lexus Level, with bison burgers straight from bison raised on Ted Turner’s ranch.

Baltimore Orioles
Pick up BBQ chicken sandwiches, BBQ chicken wraps, smoothies, fresh fruit salads and veggie wraps. Wash it all down with Talus semillon-chardonnay, Talus cabernet or any of 13 microbrew beers like Clipper City IPA and Wild Goose Porter.

Boston Red Sox
Sox fiends crave California rolls, grilled chicken sandwiches, and Hilltop steak and turkey tip sandwiches.

Chicago White Sox
Dine on grilled chicken breast sandwiches, veggie burgers, Italian beef sandwiches, chicken gyros, steak pitas and fresh fruit.

Cincinnati Reds
They’re playing in a new ballpark this season, so they’ve gone a little crazy at the concessions, adding smoked salmon, grilled lamb, veggie dogs and chicken rice rolls.

Cleveland Indians
Chicken fajita salads, veggie burgers, fruit salads, grilled chicken breast and salmon sandwiches and fried shrimp baskets compete for fans’ affections with the classic Cleveland treat — pierogies.

Colorado Rockies
Skip the Rocky Mountain oysters and go for New York strip steak sandwiches, veggie wraps, buffalo burgers, buffalo hot dogs and Chinese chicken salad. The park also boasts the first microbrewery inside a U.S. sporting facility.

Detroit Tigers
Bavarian cream churros — yum!

Florida Marlins
Cuban sandwiches (crusty bread toasted with boiled ham, roast pork, salami, Swiss cheese and pickles) and high-octane Cuban coffee to wash it down.

Houston Astros
Beeline for breast of chicken sandwiches, crab cakes (when the Giants are in town), fish tacos (when San Diego is the visiting team), fresh fruit juices, Vendange wines (chardonnay, zinfandel and cabernet) and local microbrews like Fat Tire and St. Arnold’s.

Ruby's Diner: Anaheim and beyond

Angelsrubywhat do Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Washington have in common? oh, and Angels Stadium? They all have a Ruby's Diner. Sexy Ruby is the owner's mom, by the way.

The Ruby's pictured here is way out in left field at Angels Stadium. There are some picnic tables and other seating nearby, if you don't want to go back to your seat, or if you just like to use a table when you eat (me!).

what do You like about Ruby's?

Illuminated Angels Beer Glass: good idea, bad pic

Angelfan
What you can't see here is the flickering red light that's part of this fancy Angels beer glass. What you can see is a perfect Angels fan: California Pizza Kitchen, Peanuts, a cool red shirt, an illuminated beer.
The glass, by the way, is only available way out in right field at the Budweiser Patio. You can buy it with or without a beer.

the Angels will be home v the Red Sox on 10/7 for Game 3 of the ALDS.
Guess which red shirts I'm rooting for?

Halo Chip Sandwiches in Anaheim

aka chipwich. Angelsicecr

I am a jerk. I did not buy this ice cream sandwich - I just took a picture of it. I didn't mean to waste the vendor's time but I realized I didn't feel like eating it and I didn't want to waste food but I really like the way the silver wrapper looked and I liked the name. $4.50, by the way. Have You ever had a Halo Chip Sandwich?

The Angels are in Oakland today for the last game of the regular season. Then they'll be in Boston for two games, home again in one week.

Fetzer Wine and F&B Guides at Angels Stadium

AngelswineThought I was finished posting about the Angels? I'll never be finished posting about the Angels. Did I tell you about their Let's Eat! Food & Beverage Guide? It's awesome. Kudos to Aramark for the mini pamphlet map/guide/info. You can get them at the fan service booths. All stadiums/caterers should be so smart/helpful.

Pictured right is one of many beverage carts in Angels Stadium. Fetzer wine is $8. Imported beer is $6.75. Soda $2.50. Cocktails too but I did not write down the price. A little help please?
