Tokyo Dome - Where and What to Eat

I'm doing my best. I was only in Tokyo once and the Giants were not in town. I did buy a mini glass with the Giants logo that my mom currently uses as a vase for a mini bamboo, but that's about as close as I got to the Tokyo Dome.

Here's something I learned from babibubebo.com: One thing that makes Tokyo Dome worth checking out is food. Especially in the building called LaQua which has a wonderful yakiniku place called Jojoen. It is expensive, but trust me, it is worth it to go one time.

Yakiniku is Japanese BBQ. It literally means "grilled meat." Like Korean BBQ (a fav in my house), raw meat is brought to your table and it's cooked on a little grill, generally built into the table.
Jojoen appears to be a high-end chain.

Other food I believe can be had at the Tokyo Dome: Ramen, Fried Squid and Octopus, Grilled Vegetables, Bento Boxes, Yakitori (my childhood fav Japanese food: grilled chicken on a stick with a sticky brown sauce), Yakiniku (see above), and even Hot Dogs.
Feel free to confirm or deny my assumptions. Arigato.

UAB loves Dreamland BBQ?

I was on the UAB - University of Alabama at Birmingham - site when I noticed a big ad for Dreamland BBQ. The original Dreamland Café is located about two miles from the intersection of Hwy 82 and Interstate 59 just south of Tuscaloosa in an area known as Jerusalem Heights. Now there are Dreamland BBQ's all over Alabama (and Georgia).

Let's discuss. Who's been to Dreamland? How far is it from Legion Field? Is there an outpost at Legion Field?

Shane's Rib Shack Launches Fall Football and BBQ Promotion

says Forbes / Business Wire here: Shane's Story

This is funny to me because it's really an ad and I almost wrote "reported by" Forbes up there but could not do it.

Shane's Rib Shack was founded in 2002 in McDonough, Georgia, by Shane Thompson who started the restaurant using the secret BBQ sauce recipe of his grandfather, Big Dad.
Since Atlanta-based Raving Brands acquired the concept in 2004, Shane's Rib Shack has grown to become the country's fastest growing fast-casual barbecue concept in America.

The concept of what? BBQ? Sauce? Grandfathers?
oh, I see, the fast-casual BBQ concept as opposed to the more traditional slow-black-tie BBQ concept. How did they ever think of it? I got to get them to market Scoreboard Gourmet

Billy Sims BBQ Restaurants

When someone says "Sims" and "Football" I think "Simms, you stink," the phrase I most associate with the NFL. Thanks, Dad :)
Little did I realize there was another Sims, a one-M Sims. Billy, of the University of Oklahoma and the Detroit Lions. He won the Heisman in 1978. Both Sims and Simms were born in 1955, by the way.

Anyhoo, the one-M Sims has a small chain of BBQ restaurants in Oklahoma. The tag line is "it's not just BBQ, it's Boomer-Q" which I assume is not a reference to Norman Julius Esiason.

I've never been to Oklahoma. I keep wanting to spell it "Oak." I am stupid and clearly sans map like many American, South Africans and The Iraq (is that joke over?). I would love to hear from anyone who has (a) been to a Billy Sims BBQ or (b) been to Oklahoma.
Actually, my parents have been to Oklahoma. Scratch that.

Check out the Billy Sims BBQ Website and tell me what You think.

Pork Board Tackles College Football Promotions

Can anyone tell me what this means?...

The Pork Checkoff has teamed up with a variety of packers, state organizations and selected retailers to sponsor a number of 2007 college football games in six states from September through November.

"Football and tailgating are to pork producers what Thanksgiving is to turkey producers, only we get to hit this hard for three months," Rick O'Fallon, western division retail marketing manager for the National Pork Board, said in a statement.

Teaming up with such processors as Farmland Foods, Hormel Foods and Sara Lee Foods, together with retailers such as Albertsons, Savemart Stores and Kroger's King Soopers, the Pork Checkoff will run radio ads in the run-up to major football rivalry games encouraging consumers to shop at local supermarkets to win prizes such as admission to tailgate events and VIP seats for the games.

The promotions will run in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, and Utah.

NYTimes blog bit about Texas BBQ and Football

I didn't realize until today that the NYTimes had a college football blog. It's called The Quad.

here's a recent piece about Willy Ray’s Bar-B-Q Co in Beaumont, TX: Post by Thayer Evans

From time to time, we at The Quad like to highlight eateries that we come across during our college football travels, it says.
Seems everyone is into Scoreboard Gourmet, huh? maybe I'm not that dumb.
