White Sox Bullpen Sports Bar

Cwsblpnbar The Miller Lite Bullpen Sports Bar is located on field level behind the right-field fence.

To get there, enter the ballpark from Gate 2 or take the ramp at Gate 2 down from the Main or Upper Levels. The outdoor seating area is available for a nominal charge (they say...see below) on a first-come, first-served basis. Must be 21 or older to enter.

Here are some details from Sean Parnell of The Chicago Bar Project:

It's a bar, so have your ID ready and don't try to smuggle in your children. If you arrive early (read: when Comiskey opens), you can get a coveted seat at one of the blue picnic benches in the Bullpen Bar's "beer garden" (second level, outside the bar and behind the right field fence) for an extra $15 (was $10), no matter what ticket you walked in with.

As an added bonus, this area receives a lot of fly balls hit during batting practice and an occasional home run during the game.

Considering the scarcity of bars around the park (this isn't Wrigleyville...), the Bullpen Sports Bar is an absolute blessing when the beer vendors vacate the stands after the 7th inning, particularly if you're leaving via the Red Line and not driving. What other ballpark in the league offers this?

The White Sox are home TOMORROW (5/20) v the Indians. It's Asian American Heritage Night AND the Myles Hayes Jazz Quintet is scheduled to perform at Gate 4 from 5 to 7p AND Final Say is scheduled to perform at Gate 3 from 5 to 7p.
Did You know White Sox games start at 7:11 in honor of their sponsor 7-11? Wow. Thanks, Sean, for that small but significant detail. Love it.

Beer and Peanuts and More with the Connecticut Defenders

PnutbeerI'm not sure why or how the SFGiants Double-A team is in Connecticut. I am sure that Dodd Stadium, home of the Connecticut Defenders, is a fun, nicely-run park.

We were there for one of many pint glass giveaway nights (next one 5/24, then 5/31, 6/14, 6/21). And we hear that June 26th is the Gallo Wine Sampling night.

I have more to say and more pictures to add but needed to get this one up asap: what happens when my mom and buy three beers (Sam Adams though Saturdays are 2-for-$5 Bud days) and share the third? Well, the third becomes a peanut shell receptacle. Thankfully the glass was so full we could easily fish out the shells and enjoy the beer.

No Anchor Steam at Dodd Stadium (SF classic) but they do have Sierra Nevada.

Louisville Bats Craft & Specialty Beer Happy Hour

In Louisville at Friday Bats games, with or without Andy Phillips, fans can check out Craft & Specialty Beer Happy Hour which means 16oz Rolling Rocks and "other craft & specialty beer" for $2.
I had no idea Rolling Rock was a craft and/or specialty beer. Anyway, Happy Hour is from 5:30 to 7p. Live music included.

On Thursdays it's "Game Time" Happy Hour. That's $1 Buds plus live music. 5:30 to 7pm on the Overlook Deck (behind the right center field wall just under the scoreboard)

Beer is normally $4-5.

No Local Beer at Nationals Park

When the Senators played at Griffith Stadium from 1911 through 1961, fans probably slaked their thirsts on such regional brews as Senate and Old Georgetown from the District and Nattie Boh and Gunther from Baltimore. But local beermakers have been mostly shut out at Nationals Park...

In case you haven't read this WPost story by Greg Kitsock, here's the link: Just 2 Hometown Players Made the Cut

technology snafoo at Yankee Stadium

the computers went down last night at Yankee Stadium - the ones in the Tier, at least - which meant Cash Only Concessions. Most people can handle that but some of us carry little cash and do not like the portable non-bank ATM things. Warning: bring cash to Yankee Stadium.

A reader writes in...

"I knew my tickets said "Alcohol Free" but I didn't process what that meant until a security guard stopped me from going to my seat - I was holding two beers."

That has happened to the Scoreboard Gourmet. It's frustrating, especially when you buy two so you don't have to stand in line twice. Know your section.

Daytona 500-themed Beverages

D5bud

Isn't this cool?

I wrapped two mini coke bottles (below) in t-shirts and flew them home. Haven't tasted the coke inside yet but they seem to be fine. Can't believe that was a month ago. We didn't buy or fly any beer home, by the way.

I would lo+ve it if You could send photos of sports-event-themed beverages to me, or just tell me about them. That way I'll have more incredibly exciting posts like this one. Thanks in advance.

Fresno Grizzlies Promos (Taco Tuesdays!) at Chukchansi Park

Fglogo The Fresno Grizzlies (triple-A Giants) have some fun weekday specials...

Every Monday at Chukchansi Park it's Madness. That means you can get two field-level-reserved tickets, two hot dogs, two sodas, and two Island Water Park passes for just $14 (regular price an estimated $80; that's a deal).

CA isn't in my plans this summer but I am totally tempted by Taco Tuesdays when all "Mexican-themed concession items" (Tecate beers (available until 8:00pm), tacos, taquitos, and churros) are $2. Why are the items Mexican-themed? Why aren't they Mexican?

Way Back Wednesdays = $1 field-level-reserved tickets for children under the age of 12, seniors (55 and up), and all military personnel (with valid ID) every Wednesday (excluding 8/22).

Thirsty Thursdays = $1 sodas and 12oz-Tecate Light beers (through the 5th inning).

The Grizzlies first game (an exhibition v the SF Giants) is March 26th.

Las Vegas 51's Thursday Dollar Beer Nights

The Las Vegas 51s (triple-A Dodgers) will open their 26th Pacific Coast League season at home against the Salt Lake Bees (tripleA Angels) on Thursday April 3rd at 7:05pm.

Dollar Beer Night will be presented at every this and every Thursday home game throughout the 2008 campaign.

There must be some hot summer games in Vegas, huh?

I was just watching an episode of Las Vegas (a show I did once enjoy but have not seen in quite awhile - since when is Magnum on it? between him and the Tad Hamilton Transformers guy it's like the hottest TV show around). Anyway, there was a 2-on-2 half court thing going on in the episode and of course there was gambling (and slight mystery) which got me thinking about the lack of professional sports in Vegas. I mean, they have some minor league hockey and obviously baseball, and they had the NBA All-Star Game there last year. A real team could be there; is it really the possibility of gambling that keeps MLB, NFL, etc away?
