Thankfully I got into a conversation with SNY's Ted Berg before walking out of Citi Field Fantasy Food Day II. Otherwise I might have missed the *new* Fried Chicken that's part of the Cafe Hanover / World's Fare Market (Field Level, right field corner).
They call it KoNo Chicken and they'll be selling 3 pieces for $7.50 and 5 pieces for $10.50. Any pieces you want (wings, legs) and Hot Sauce or Soy Sauce flavoring. They'll have bulgogi beef and bibimbap too. Like.
Pillow-soft bun, fresh crunchy cucumber, tender meat...mushrooms and ginger for display only. And this year there will be increased access to the Acela Club at CitiField.
Floyd Cardoz says he eats chicken tacos at the game then goes to Blue Smoke for ribs then stands in line for a Shack burger. Yes he really is sideways and green.
The inaugural Free Beer and Hot Wings Morning Show "Wingstock" festival will take place at Fifth Third Ballpark, home of the West Michigan Whitecaps (Single A Tigers), on Saturday, June 12. Snoop Dog, Jackyl, Pop Evil and Richy Nix will be there. And, of course, there will be a Wing Alley, featuring a variety of outside vendors offering their best flavors of chicken wings, not for free. This is a one-day festival on the field of Fifth Third Ballpark - no baseball - but I couldn't resist mentioning FREE BEER AND HOT WINGS.
I love me some pizza. And I love me some butter. Yet the smell of these delicious foods do not connect in my brain. Why am I saying that? Because K! PizzaCone(325 Fifth Ave., Manhattan) smells like the concession line at a movie theatre (read: hot, fake butter; is it diacetyl?).
No matter. What deters some attracts others. Circle K Pizza Cone is nearly as busy as it's neighbor Kyochon (319 Fifth Ave., Manhattan). I'll get to that later.
Friendly PizzaCone employees tell me pepperoni is the favorite cone, but they have as many toppings as you could ever want. And by toppings of course I mean fillings. In terms of transportation (walking from Fifth Ave to the Garden), these things are ideal, not that I'm a big supporter of walking-and-eating but you do have to have it consumed before you enter MSG. I do not recommend attempting to sneak this product in in your pocket as it will undoubtedly be soggy by the time you get to your seat.
Report to follow...enjoy this picture, which I took to remind me to tell you about the Rangers v Devils Viewing Party at Foxwoods. Yes, that's my reminder photo. Getting details on that now. You feeling teased?
If I ever see (well, hear) that Sarah McLachlan Animal Shelter commercial again, ever, it will be too soon. That song does not inspire me to rescue a pet; it enrages me, makes me want to slay things. It's like a chant or an incantation. In fact, it's the perfect song to use in a movie in which the main character was somehow hypnotized and every time he hears that song he goes out and kills people. No. Kills animals. That's perfect. The creators of the ad and Sarah McLachlan are actually creating a corps of animal killers yet they have the perfect alibi, no one will ever suspect them.
Anyway, just when I've had enough of animal rights, PETA tells me about something fantastic: Miami Dolphins running back and vegetarian Ricky Williams judged a pre Super Bowl FauxChicken Wing Challenge at his restaurant, Proof (in the Z Ocean Hotel, 1437 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach).
I love that BonChon Chicken was too difficult a name for us whitefolk to manage, but KyoChon is no problem. This place on the NE corner of 32nd and 5th says it's opening Winter 2009. So...that's December 21. Perfect for Knicks and Rangers games, and other Winter Madison Square Garden events.
On November 25th the first 2,500 fans at the Suns / Warriors game in Phoenix will get a Suns 60oz pitcher courtesy of Native New Yorker (a wings place, plus sports bar).
Take your pitcher to any local Valley Native New Yorker during other Suns games for $7 refills on domestic draft beers. Or, receive a $7 pitcher of soda with free refills. Offer valid during Suns games at participating Valley Native New Yorker restaurants though the end of the 2009-10 Suns season.
The Suns are home tonight v the Pistons. Tip off 6pm.
This is not the only thing I'll be writing about the University of Houston Tailgating. I love what I saw in that parking lot, but I also love what's nearby: Frenchy's. Well, I don't love it in the way I love Mad For Chicken, but it's good and it's adjacent to the Cougars lot. Really convenient for anyone who did not prepare their tailgate at home.
The Cougars are hosting Memphis at noon tomorrow, 11/21. I have more to say but no time. Come back.
Here it is, Citi Field's Acela Club's Best Food: Spit Roasted Lemon & Herb Chicken with chimichurri sauce and arugula.
I don't know the science here, but bone-in chicken is much harder to mess up (dry out) than boneless. Moisture from bone marrow seeps in? Did I just make that up? Roasting, spit-roasting is slow so you lose less moisture. That I know, but I don't know why. Yet another example of focus on the wrong things in high school science.
Anyway, get the chicken. It's moist and salty (ooh, that would keep moisture in too!) and unquestionably our favorite entree on the Acela Club menu.
