Richmond Braves Concessions

I am loving the Richmond Braves Concessions Directory. Is it fancy? High tech? Not at all. But does it do the trick? Well, if you're not looking for prices, Yes.

A Kids Concessions Stand is located at the far end of the 3rd base main concourse (smaller portion for those 13-and-under). No outside food or beverages are allowed to be brought into the ballpark.

Click here for the list of offerings at the Diamond's six food concessions stands.

MLB Players Turned Concessionaires

Mstkt This is fun. Following is a list of the 6 ballparks who have former players, managers, announcers who now flip burgers and sign autographs on game day. Great idea, Aramark.
That's the Manny Sanguillen autograph I got last year (pictured). I had no idea who he was but there was a big line of people wanting to see him and eat his bbq so I stood with them and had him sign my ticket. TFMJ didn't know who he was either but that didn't stop us from putting the ticket up on our magnet wall of favorite things. In case you're wondering, he played for the Pirates from 1967 to 1980, not including 1977 when he played for the A's. He turned 64 on March 21st. Happy Belated, Manny.

• Former Orioles MVP Boog Powell - Boog’s BBQ: Baltimore’s Oriole Park at Camden Yards

• Former Phillies homerun hitter Greg “The Bull” Luzinski - Bull’s BBQ: Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park

• Former Red Sox pitcher Luis Tiant - El Tiante’s: Boston’s Fenway Park

• Former Astros manager Larry Dierker - Larry’s Big Bamboo: Houston’s Minute Maid Park

• Former Pirates catcher Manny Sanguillen - Manny’s BBQ: Pittsburgh’s PNC Park at North Shore

• Braves announcers Skip Caray and Pete Van Wieren - Skip & Pete’s Hall of Fame Barbeque: Atlanta’s Turner Field

Eating away the innings in baseball's cheap seats, by USAToday

USAToday, a newspaper I generally only read when I stay in a hotel, did a piece on all-you-can-eat seats in MLB parks. You know what I think - people need to exercise self-control; need to be responsible for themselves. If AYCE disgusts you, sit somewhere else.

Baseball and gluttony, two of America's favorite pastimes, are merging in a controversial trend taking hold at Major League Baseball stadiums across the nation: all-you-can-eat seats.

Fans in these diet-busting sections, for a fixed price usually ranging from $30 to $55, are able to gorge on as many hot dogs, nachos, peanuts and soft drinks as they can stomach. Some teams charge extra for beer, desserts and candy.

here's a little more...

"What's the old saying? A hot dog at the ballpark is better than a steak at the Ritz," says Dodgers chief marketing officer Charles Steinberg, who won't discuss the precise impact the all-you-can-eat seats have had on team revenue.

Among the clubs with all-you-can-eat seats for the first time this year: the Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates, Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres, Florida Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays and Arizona Diamondbacks. Besides the Dodgers, Rangers and Royals, those offering them for at least part of last season were the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles.

And here's the link to the full story.

Tastiest Ballpark Eats, says Wine X, Part 1

Here's why the internet is so great...I was searcing for something completely unrelated to Scoreboard Gourmet and I found something on winexmagazine.com that's perfect for me (and You):
The Wine X Guide to Gourmet Eats at the Country's Tastiest Ballparks (!):

Anaheim Angels
Shredded-beef tamales.

Arizona Diamondbacks
Find the “Fielder’s Choice” farmers’ market or slurp down a smoothie. For a little less sobriety, try the Sonora and Fat Tire microbrews.

Atlanta Braves
Why brave a hot dog when there’s grilled chicken, veggie wraps, fruit and cheese plates, and fresh fruit smoothies? The park also features an upscale wine bar on the Lexus Level, with bison burgers straight from bison raised on Ted Turner’s ranch.

Baltimore Orioles
Pick up BBQ chicken sandwiches, BBQ chicken wraps, smoothies, fresh fruit salads and veggie wraps. Wash it all down with Talus semillon-chardonnay, Talus cabernet or any of 13 microbrew beers like Clipper City IPA and Wild Goose Porter.

Boston Red Sox
Sox fiends crave California rolls, grilled chicken sandwiches, and Hilltop steak and turkey tip sandwiches.

Chicago White Sox
Dine on grilled chicken breast sandwiches, veggie burgers, Italian beef sandwiches, chicken gyros, steak pitas and fresh fruit.

Cincinnati Reds
They’re playing in a new ballpark this season, so they’ve gone a little crazy at the concessions, adding smoked salmon, grilled lamb, veggie dogs and chicken rice rolls.

Cleveland Indians
Chicken fajita salads, veggie burgers, fruit salads, grilled chicken breast and salmon sandwiches and fried shrimp baskets compete for fans’ affections with the classic Cleveland treat — pierogies.

Colorado Rockies
Skip the Rocky Mountain oysters and go for New York strip steak sandwiches, veggie wraps, buffalo burgers, buffalo hot dogs and Chinese chicken salad. The park also boasts the first microbrewery inside a U.S. sporting facility.

Detroit Tigers
Bavarian cream churros — yum!

Florida Marlins
Cuban sandwiches (crusty bread toasted with boiled ham, roast pork, salami, Swiss cheese and pickles) and high-octane Cuban coffee to wash it down.

Houston Astros
Beeline for breast of chicken sandwiches, crab cakes (when the Giants are in town), fish tacos (when San Diego is the visiting team), fresh fruit juices, Vendange wines (chardonnay, zinfandel and cabernet) and local microbrews like Fat Tire and St. Arnold’s.

Coors, Miller, A-B roll out promotions, expand sports sponsorships

somehow I landed on the Convenience Store / Petroleum Daily where I found an informative story about Brewers Gearing Up for Football Season. The beer-making brewers, not the baseball-playing Brewers.

Some Highlights: Coors is partnering with the New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans and broadening its relationship with the New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Miller Lite’s 2007 football program - Beer That’s Made to Be Great Makes Gameday Better - is underway. I absolutely love that convoluted slogan.

Anheuser-Bush and the Buffalo Bills have announced a renewed partnership. At each Bills home game in 2007, Bud Light will host free, pep rally-style tailgate parties that will include live band performances, live radio or TV pre-game remotes, special guest appearances by former players, radio personalities and appearances from the Budweiser Clydesdales. Also, Bud Light will continue to host the team’s official Draft Day Party at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

and the winner is...

Pnutwinwell, the winnerS Are: Yankees and Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Adv-A Braves).
actually, only my mom and I picked these two, in case my earlier post wasn't clue enough that tastes were divided.
I'll get back to the peanuts, but first I want to say: Strawberry is the favorite ice-cream flavor of Pelicans third baseman Eric Campbell. I was totally into that until I heard that his favorite 'restaurant' is Olive Garden. That's all I'm saying because it's late (or early) and because that's all there is to say.

MB Pelicans Root Beer Floats

Mbrbfloatthe ice-cream was a little yogurty but the root beer was delicious. I'd never had a Root Beer Float at a ballgame. What a great idea. $4. Next home game: June 27th v. Potomac Nationals, 7:05p

Myrtle Beach Pelicans "Beach" Seats

How cool is this little Left Field Beach at Coastal Federal Field? Very. Not that there's a bad seat in the house but these are coool. Seems to be $1000 to rent it out, including food. I recommend calling the office (843-918-6002) since the Customer Service staff at the game (the guy at the booth) was friendly but not exactly well informed.

Boiled Peanuts! in Myrtle Beach

BoiledpmbBoiled2pmb Awesome is really all I can say when there are Boiled Peanuts on the menu.
Last night, after the MLB Indians beat the MLB Braves, the Advanced-A Indians lost to the Advanced-A Braves (aka Myrtle Beach Pelicans). I was wearing an Indians t-shirt I acquired in Cleveland while my Georgia born and raised friends did the arm chop hatchet thing. You know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, Boiled Peanuts. $3.50, by the way, for a cup.
