47 Days to Super Bowl XLIII

That's less time than those Drama High kids had to rehearse for their production of The Wiz. Yes I was clicking away from the Browns/Eagles game. I'm sure tons of people outside of Ohio will be tuning in for Sunday's Browns/Bengals extravaganza. Ha.

But let's get serious for a minute. The SuperBowl is loomingish. Some eager Jets and Giants fans have gotten together with a name for the possible Meadowlands Matchup: The Broadway Bowl. They are worried a NY v NY game could be misnamed The Subway Bowl. But no subway connects these teams because (a) they play in the same stadium and (b) that stadium is in NJ. Alas, Broadway doesn't connect these teams either; see reasons (a) and (b) above.

What does connect the Jets and Giants is a desire to be in NY. Maybe it should be The Wrong Side of the River Bowl, or The Bills Are the Only NY Team to Play on NY Dirt Bowl. I'm not saying I wouldn't enjoy a Jets/Giants SuperBowl, or that I consider either team to belong to NJ, I'm just saying a more appropriate name might be The Port Authority of NJ/NJ Bowl. Maybe a portion of proceeds could go to the MTA.

What the heck does this have to do with food, you ask? No matter who is in the SuperBowl, I plan to be eating White Hots from NY State. How's that?

Energy Drinks and the NFL

Did the Browns really approve the Braylon Edwards commercial for that 5-hour energy supplement? the one in which he basically says one of his teammates is addicted? Have you seen that? It's crazy. It seems fake. Forgive me if it's old news to everyone but I only watch commercials when TFMJ is out of town.
I hear Osi Umenyiora is also part of the campaign. Who thought that was a good idea?

Red Osier Roast Beef Sandwiches

I heard you can get Red Osier Roast Beef sandwiches in Rochester (at the Red Wings, Twins Triple-A) but I did not expect to find them in Pawtucket (Paw Sox, Red Sox Triple-A).
Turns out the Buffalo Bison (Indians Triple-A), the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, and Tampa Bay Lightning serve these prime rib sandies too.

One more comment on Pawtucket, slim pickings in terms of food. Red Osier was the best looking food in the ballpark, and it wasn't exactly a crowded stand, and it's certainly not a local product. Where's the delicious brothy Rhode Island clam chowder? How about some lobster? What else to they make/grow/fish for in that tiny New England state?

Brady Quinn, who celebrated his 23rd bday on the 27th, has a great pre-game food ritual: he gulps (his word) honey. Apparently his dad and uncle thought it would be good to get him all sugared up before pee wee games. Now he believes it helps coat/protect his throat against all his "yelling as a QB."
Any honey will do, but the bear bottles came to his mind. The Scoreboard Gourmet prefers manuka. The Scoreboard Gourmet also thinks honey+athletics makes sense: she has been known to down honey while hiking.

Inside the Browns Stadium - I need some help

This (pictures) is as close as I've gotten to the Browns Stadium. what can I say? I've only been to Cleveland in the summer. That's why I need Your help. The Browns are home again on 11/4 at 4:05pm v the Seahawks. I could surely use some insider guidance (via comments or email ) to share with other readers of Scoreboard Gourmet. Thanks.

Melt Bar and Grilled in Cleveland

True it's 6.5miles from the home of the Browns, but so what? Every time I leave home I realize that everyone in the world has a car. And, anyway, Melt Bar and Grilled is awesome. And I don't even like Fat bread. In fact, I sort of Hate Fat bread but I still love this grilled cheese restaurant in greater Cleveland (technically Lakewood). May I repeat: Grilled Cheese Restaurant. They have some 20 different grilled cheeses that all come with fries and slaw. It's heavenly.

Pictured front is the Grilled Peanut Butter & Banana which has PB, berry preserves, cream cheese, and banana. Behind it is Wake & Bacon: fried egg, bacon, American cheese.

Even if the restaurant's walls were not covered with sports memorabilia, I'd still tell you to run to Lakewood and have a grilled cheese before or after the game. You can ride along the water to/from the Browns Stadium.

Cleveland Browns Backers in NYC

Blondies is the home of the Penn State Alumni, Michigan State Alumni, University of Oklahoma, University of Virginia, Northwestern University, University of Kansas, Indiana University, University of Tennessee, Ohio State, Johns Hopkins University and the home of the Cleveland Browns Backers.

Brownies fans meet at upstairs Blondies East on gamedays. It's a great crowd. And the pigs in blankets are good too. If I was not recovering from watching the Indians yesterday with my favorite Browns fans, I'd be heading up there now. Maybe I can pull myself together. Other games will be on the smaller screens but the crowd will be BROWNS.

Ballpark or Stadium Mustard?

Which is better? Which is the favorite in town? Can some Clevelanders please write in and tell me what Mustard You like best?
According to Irene Dever who sells both from her stall in the West Side Market, the difference between the mustards is that Stadium has cayenne. So the Browns like it spicy, huh? Well, not only the Browns, Stadium Mustard gets around. I'm trying to locate a complete list of stadiums/arenas where SM is served. Here are some things I can tell you...
Ballpark: since 1925, 16oz container, kosher, 10 calories per 1 teaspoon (little sugar in there)
Stadium: 50+ years old, 12oz container, 5 calories per 1 teaspoon, no sugar
