Frosty Malts at Wrigley Field and Kaufman Stadium and other places not in NYC

Frostym

I am Not a Frosty Malt expert.

What I do know is Chicago Tribune reporter Paul Sullivan (In his "100 Questions for 100 Years" Cubs story) asks and answers:

-What is the tastiest treat ever sold at Wrigley Field?
-Frosty malts. As Steve Goodman sang: "Give everybody two bags of peanuts and a frosty malt, and I'll be ready to die."

That's Paul's #1 question. (Here's the full story, if you're looking for a fun Cubsy read)

The Frosty Malts pictured are the ones sold at Royals games. I also happen to know there are Frosty Malts at the Great American Ballpark. But that's about all I know. I'm hoping some Frosty Malts fans can write in and tell me about this sweet treat.

Daytona Baseball: Cubs and Bethune-Cookman

BcdcOne afternoon in Daytona, TFMJ and I walked around the Jackie Robinson Ballpark, which is on a little island between the mainland and the beach. I'm pretty sure I already mentioned the history there - it's where Jackie Robinson first played outside of the Negro Leagues.
Anyway, when we saw the maroon-gold-yellow uniforms on the players in the field, we were confused. Daytona's Jackie Robinson Ballpark is home to the Daytona Cubs (Adv-A Cubs); we expected blue-white-red. We watched the practice and felt the team was at about A-level, which didn't answer any questions for us. Finally we had to ask.

We spoke to Assistant Coach Jose Vazquez and realized we were watching the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. Jose is fantastic. He told us about the school (which went from a school for black girls, to a co-ed high-school, to a junior college, to a 4-year university), and the team (they won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title last year), and places to eat in the area (one of Jose's suggestions - Boondocks - was so great we went twice in three days).

In case you didn't guess, the Wildcats and the Daytona Cubs share Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Bethune-Cookman is home again Friday March 28th v Savannah State at 6pm. The Daytona Cubs first game of the season is April 3rd v the Brevard County Manatees  (Milwaukee Brewers) at 7:05p.

More about the Ballpark's food and Jose's restaurant suggestions to come...

Daytona's Dancing Avocado Kitchen Gets a Gold Star from SG

AvokplateDakd the blue awning above the Dancing Avocado Kitchen says only "Avocado Kitchen" but don't let that concern you...it's the right place, and you absolutely should go in.

Wondering how much I liked my sandwich? That's my plate in the right picture (and my Strawberry Lemonade, on the 3rd refill). I had The Dancer, an avocado melt with avocado, red onion (they call it purple), cheddar jack, sprouts, and tomato on multigrain bread. It's awesome. our waitress told me the customer before me said she could eat one every day. I wholeheartedly agree. It's $6.75

TFMJ had the $8 burger burrito, and the $3.50 corn fritters and an Orange Lemonade. Our $2.25 lemonades were refilled many times.

The Dancing Avocado Kitchen makes and bottles two hot sauces. Pictured (and the one I bought) is Jalapeno. It was a great addition to my sandwich, btw. The other sauce is Garlic Habanero. They're both $4.95.

What's better than a great sandwich? The DAK is across the street from the home of the Daytona Cubs (single-A Cubs), Jackie Robinson Stadium. More on that later.

p.s. we did not have time to go to Delphine, DAK's neighbor, but we did hear it was quite good. If anyone can confirm or deny that statement, please leave a comment below. thanks.

Chicago Cubs, I do love you

It has come to my attention that I have severely neglected the Cubs. I know they are not the only neglected team out there but I feel particularily bad about this one since I have actually been to Wrigley Field. Oops. Sorry, Cubbies.

The best way I can make it up to everyone is by thinking about Spring Training in Mesa, Arizona.

Hohokam Stadium Rules and Info:

One 32 oz. sealed bottle of water per person is permitted.
Strollers are permitted.
Baby food and baby formula are permitted

Although we encourage you to enjoy the wide variety of concession faire inside the Stadium, tailgating is permitted in the parking lots surrounding the Stadium.  However, City and State law prohibits alcoholic beverages from being consumed in the parking areas

From hot dogs and burgers to pizza or burritos, you'll now find it at Hohokam!  A selection of beers, (including Old Style in select locations), as well as margaritas and an assortment of Pepsi products are available throughout the venue.  There are also opportunities to purchase your favorite Cubs memorabilia at the Cubbie Hole gift shops and at souvenir carts in the Stadium.  Concession and souvenir services are provided by Ovations Food Services.

I'm hoping someone can write in an tell us about the food at Hohokam Stadium?

Is the first real (meaning Regular Season) home (meaning Wrigley Field) game really March 31st? Wow (meaning that seems early).
