NFL Season Openers
Now back to your regularly scheduled programing...baseball...Yankees try again to have Opening Day.
obviously I realize the NFL season is over but I was going thought my mini notebook and realized I'd forgotton to mention something very cool...Tom Seubert, the owner and chef at Buck-a-Neer Supper Club in Stratford, WI (major Packers territory), is dad to Rich Seubert, left guard for the New York Giants.
from Tom Silverstein's Journal Sentinal article State of Conflict...which is actually about Mark Tauscher, right tackle for the Green Bay Packers, playing the other WI-native (Seubert), but that's not as interesting to SG as this...
Tom Seubert has decorated one of the walls in his restaurant with Giants memorabilia and he regularly hears from townspeople and friends about how proud they are of his son. But he also knows that on each Sunday, the television sets at the bar have to be tuned into the Packers' game.
So he goes into the kitchen and watches the Giants game by himself. He good-naturedly gets ribbed about his allegiances, but after 36 years as the restaurant's chef and host to 300 or 400 people on Fridays and Saturdays, he's cut some slack.
So are there gameday specials? What's the favorite restaurant food of Packers fans? Are there any other Giants fans in WI? What does Tom make special for Rich to eat? Do tell.

The Grand Central Oyster Bar is changing the name of its New England Clam Chowder to ''Giants Clam Chowder'' for the week.
The restaurant's owner, Mike Garvey, called it an ''appropriate tribute.''
The Giants beat the previously undefeated New England Patriots 17-14 on Sunday night to win their third Super Bowl title.
go out and vote! (not kidding) AND go out and celebrate with the Giants! people are lining up now to get a good view of the Canyon of Heroes. Last night I was on hold for 22min 57sec trying to get a couple of the 5000 seats for the parade. couldn't stand it for another second; had to give up but that doesn't mean I've stopping wondering: what will You eat at the Giants SuperBowl Celebration Parade?
Guess who's involved with the event? the Soupman. They'll be serving soup to the Giants and others at the parade. Click the link above to figure out why. who knew I was so influential?
more from me and by me (which I guess is why you come to SG in the first place but this time it's a little different).
THE Giants aren't the only underdog in New York. Manhattan clam chowder isn't known as a favorite either, but that doesn't mean it can't beat its northern competition, that ubiquitous hueless brew. What kind of a color is white anyway? No color at all. Sorry, New England Clam Chowder, New Yorkers like color and personality in their soup...

guess what? this post is more about me and THE Post.
if you can't spare the quarter to get the print edition of today's NYPost, check out my SuperBowl Menu story online: The Post's Super Pigskin Pigout
warning: it's completely overwhelming online And I never should have included that 3Gallion(!) recipe for vege chili (who can eat that much at home?), but there's tons of great stuff in there from some of my favorite NYC restaurants and markets.
The online version also features some comments from Guy Fieri who is super nice and has some great Food Network shows (and you know I'd never plug TFN if it wasn't true). Guy is a Raiders fan, btw, like TFMJ. looks like we might be taking a trip to Oakland next fall, and you know what that means: Saags.
I'm totally selling myself short by not mentioning my other little piece in today's NYPost.
Even the most disciplined eaters suffer temptation during nosh-a-thons like the Super Bowl. How can we be good, or at least mildly in control, when we know our boys are fighting in Phoenix? ...

Thank you Crain's reporter Lisa Fickenscher:
Sports bars in the city are making their own wagers on Super Bowl Sunday—and in each scenario they win. The battle between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots promises to be one of the most profitable Super Bowls ever for local businesses, simply because the match involves a hometown team.
“The Super Bowls that the Giants have been in have been huge for us,” says Mickey Mantle’s Restaurant and Sports Bar general manager, Bart Alexander, who expects revenues from this year’s game to be 50% greater than last year’s. Fans are expected to arrive earlier and stay later, drinking and eating more in the process. “They treat themselves well, ordering a steak instead of burger,” adds Mr. Alexander.
At Back Page sports bar, general manager, Jack Foley, is ordering 3,400 pounds of chicken wings, 800 pounds more than last year.
ESPN Zone employees expect fans to camp outside the Times Square sports Mecca all night to get inside the place on Sunday when it opens at 11 a.m. In previous years, hard core fans gather by the entrance around 8 a.m., says Susan Abramson, regional marketing manager. Groups of eight or more can reserve a table starting at $115 per person, which includes food, beer and wine. For the first time, the Disney-owned bar/restaurant is raffling off two recliners—each one with a team logo—in its lobby. “We expect to be at maximum capacity,” says Ms. Abramson.

Having once been to an official vip special fancy nfl superbowl tailgate party (in Miami) I can safely say that they are awesome. I recall standing 4 feet from the performing Doobie Brothers while nibbling a filet mignon mini sandwich. if you can, you should go, and then you should write in and tell us about it.
