Minneapolis Outdoor Baseball in April - Soup For You!

You know it's going to be cold at Target Field. You know it's going to be really really cold. You know that cold air is better than recirculated Metrodome air, but you still need something to break the chill. Good news - Lunds and Byerly's Wild Rice Soup, which I'm told is a Minneapolan favorite - will be served at Twins games. 

"Nothing says Minnesota like a bowl of wild rice soup," said Twins President Dave St. Peter in a press release.
Lunds and Byerly's most requested recipe, the soup is made with Minnesota-grown wild rice. You can get it at one of three Halsey's Sausage Haus concession stands at the ballpark.

And you-know-who will be tasting some very soon. 

Maui Wowi Hawaiian at Spring Training in Peoria

Maui Wowi Hawaiian is as close as you can get to going to Hawaii without hopping on a plane ...another plane, that is, assuming you flew to Phoenix to check out Mariners and/or Padres Spring Training. I love this photo. Thanks again to the Peoria Sports Complex.

Do You know what these people are standing in line for? Fresh Fruit Smoothies (Strawberry Banana, Passion Papaya, Mango Orange, Banana Banana, Pina Colada, Kiwi Lemon-Lime, Black Raspberry, Lemon Wave). And there's an "adult option" with every drink, which means liquor.
Maybe I should not have colored that smoothie flavor, but the color is called Banana! And maybe I should not include that entire list. Hmm. Maui Wowi also has Kona Coffee and Espresso.

Maui Wowi Hawaiian has more than 400 locations (franchises) plus about 800 under development. That's exciting. Know what else is exciting? The Root Beer Float stand on the left (that color is called Nutmeg, btw).

Saints Black & Gold Blend Coffee

Yesterday, during the NFC Championship game at the SuperDome, Saints Black & Gold Blend coffee made its first appearance. As of today it's available in New Orleans area PJ's Coffee houses (they're the ones who created it).

Anyone who was at the game can use their ticket to get a $1 discount on a bag of Saints Black & Gold Blend.

After Torre and Francona actually agreed to this endorsement, imagine the meeting deciding what flavor tea they'd be drinking in the ad. Sharing memories and taking time to catch up over a cup of green tea. Excellent.

Yankees Hot Chocolate

39 minutes to first pitch and people already complaining the hot chocolate isn't hot. And when this hot chocolate is not hot, you can actually taste it, which is undesirable. Best to go for the $4 12-oz and chug before it cools down.

Cowboys Stadium Coffee = Free Dunkin Donuts (Coffee)

You can now get Dunkin' Donuts hot coffee, iced coffee, hot chocolate and iced tea during Cowboys home games, college football games, etc at Cowboys Stadium. Just like the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Celtics and Bruins, the Cowboys are currently in a Dunkin' relationship. And given the complaints about heat after the roof was opened last week, hot beverages are no doubt huge sellers in Dallas. 

There are 18 "pouring stations" in Cowboys Stadium. A 14oz cup (the only size sold) is $5.
Here's the Free part: on weekdays after every home game, redeem your Cowboys game ticket stubs at any Dunkin' Donuts location and get a free medium hot coffee.

What passes for a handheatprotector at the US Open

What do you call those things? We can't think of the word. But we know it's not Pink Dishrag. This is what a vendor at the US Open offered my friend when he mentioned his cup was too hot to hold.

• Insulative sleeve for a hot drink cup
• Cup jackets
• Comfort Grip Wrap Cup Sleeves
• Hot Cup Cozy
• Cup insulation sleeves

None of these sound right either. What do you call the thing you slip over a disposable cup holding a hot beverage?

Yankees Soup Bowl Night

And I'm going! Who will I take with me for this exciting promotion, and will we actually make it up there in time to get a beautiful soup bowl that I will cherish forever?

Union Square Starbucks giving out coffee to children

To be fair, there's no question that a cup of coffee is better for the kiddies than a soda. Soda is the devil (says someone who just enjoyed a loverly ginger-ale with her tuna-on-rye). But, really, do we need to be handing out free coffee to kids? What does this have to do with sports, you ask? I don't know, drugs? Addiction? Or maybe nothing. Maybe I'm just a concerned citizen. 

Dunkin' Donuts Coffee at Yankee Stadium

Look what I saw at the ballpark (left). In case you can't read dot matrix, that cup has both a Yankees logo running around the top and Dunkin Donuts logo. Friends of mine hate the thought of DD+Y (because of the RS), but I like it, especially in a ballpark where it's nearly impossible to find juice and it's impossible to get a coke.

In other DD news, today is Iced Coffee Day. 50¢. That's a deal.

Food Prices at Yankee Stadium

Today is the day I come back to you with Yankee Stadium Food Prices, and a wicked cold or some other sort of sickness given the wet weather. If the Yankees knock me out how will I watch the Mets and UConn tomorrow? Oy the problems in my life.
