Phillies Got a Brand New Dog: South Philly Hot Dog Wins Fan Vote

The votes are in. Nearly 6,500 of them, in fact. The South Philly Hot Dog (pictured) is now officially on the Citizens Bank Park menu.

Earning 46 percent of the vote, this all-beef Hatfield dog topped with broccoli rabe, spicy roasted peppers and sharp provolone cheese on a crusty Italian roll, will be available at the Hatfield concession stand, Section 125, main concourse starting Monday, April 12th when the Phillies open their home season.

Other New Menu Items:
At the Alley Grill (left field concourse) look for Turkey Hill vanilla and chocolate milkshakes, double cheeseburgers, and grilled bistro chicken sandwiches.
At the new stand behind Harry The K's, You'll find slightly sweet and lightly salted kettle corn

In the regular concessions, when you're feeling full of meat, go for the veggie dogs and southwest black bean burgers

Root Beer floats at Target Field

Killebrew Root Beer, both a regional brand and a product named to honor the Twins slugger, will be served at Target Field concessions and restaurants and also used to make root beer (ice cream) floats WHICH WILL BE VENDED THROUGHOUT THE BALLPARK! And made to order with single-serve Blue Bunny scoops. Awesome. Thanks to Cafe Cyan / Bite of Minnesota Crystal for letting me photograph hers (above; I'd already pounded mine).

Maui Wowi Hawaiian at Spring Training in Peoria

Maui Wowi Hawaiian is as close as you can get to going to Hawaii without hopping on a plane ...another plane, that is, assuming you flew to Phoenix to check out Mariners and/or Padres Spring Training. I love this photo. Thanks again to the Peoria Sports Complex.

Do You know what these people are standing in line for? Fresh Fruit Smoothies (Strawberry Banana, Passion Papaya, Mango Orange, Banana Banana, Pina Colada, Kiwi Lemon-Lime, Black Raspberry, Lemon Wave). And there's an "adult option" with every drink, which means liquor.
Maybe I should not have colored that smoothie flavor, but the color is called Banana! And maybe I should not include that entire list. Hmm. Maui Wowi also has Kona Coffee and Espresso.

Maui Wowi Hawaiian has more than 400 locations (franchises) plus about 800 under development. That's exciting. Know what else is exciting? The Root Beer Float stand on the left (that color is called Nutmeg, btw).

Details on Yankees website. Read the fine print which says the promo is going through 2011. But the regular season is almost ending so you'd better get yer Turkey Hill asap. 

Mets Helmet Cup, more than just an ice cream bowl

Can you believe my nephew is already two? Neither can I. This helmet cup is one of the presents I gave him. That's right, I endured a cup of chocolate carvel for my nephew. 

The vendor who sold the ice cream to me said there is No favorite flavor at Citi Field. That's suspect, but I thanked her for her answer anyway (I'm polite like that, and so is my nephew, btw. For example, while I was torturing him by slicing his slice of birthday cake too slowly he looked at me and said, pleading, "Cake. Please.")

Metrodome Walkaway Sundaes

Lipgloss & Baseball Jen told me about the sundaes at the Metrodome even before I got on the plane. Ice Cream, Brats, and the Twins, some of the things she loves (that's not a quote; it's an observation). But she didn't tell me that They Make the Cones On-Premise (Jen, did you know that? isn't that cool?).

Here's the breakdown of the Walkaway Sunday: Vanilla, Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, Cherry, in homemade Cone; $5.

Maybe we should rename it the Walkoff Two-Run Single Sundae, just for this weekend (Or the Inside the Park Homerun Sundae). Hee hee. Twins at Yankees 1:05pm, not considering possible rain.

As promised, here's the insider's view of the ice-cream (left).

And, because knowing I am going to tonight's Yankees game makes me feel better about all this Red Sox ice cream coverage, here are more photos from my Stop&Shop trip (below). As my dad says, it's like everyone in Connecticut is really confused...

As you can see, there are other flavors too (at Stop&Shop in Connecticut, a state that's seriously confused about team alliance). Green Monster Mint has "chocolatey mint socks" and the label says "swirled with thick fudge in mint ice cream" but all the chocolate was sitting on top, and the socks were stuck in the mud of the fudge. 

My nephew, trying to pick out a sock, grabbed about half the so-called swirl while I was explaining to him that we can never ever again buy or eat this ice cream, even if it is the perfect size for a shared afternoon snack (6oz), and the perfect price ($1). "No," he said, one of about six words in his vocab, clearly understanding, opening his smiling chocolatey-covered mouth for a spoonful of the mild mint.

If it's not actual chocolate, what is it?

Brett Gardner's Last Licks Autograph Signing Today!

Last Licks is "the only Ice Cream/Frozen Yogurt and Sports Memorabilia store in the world!!!"
It's a mini NY chain. One is near my apartment yet I've never been. Have to get there soon. Another location, the one in Armonk, is having a Brett Gardner event tonight from 5:30 to 7.

Dayton Dragons New Ice Cream by Graeters

with a name like Graeter's, it has to be grate.
How could I resist? The Dayton Dragons (single-A Reds) now have a namesake ice cream in their ballpark: Dragon Bites. It's also available at all four Dayton-area Graeter’s locations.

Not including the chocolate-covered marshmallow creams and fudge pieces, Dragon Bites (green mint ice cream with Oreos) sounds alot like the only Ben & Jerry's flavor I ever liked: Mint Oreo Cookie, which is now in the Flavor Graveyard (seriously; that's what they call it). If you want to help me try to resurrect it, contact them. I love this pre-Easter theme.

Back to Graeter's for a moment. Is this true: Graeter’s was founded in 1870 and is the oldest continuous ice cream maker in the country. How do we prove this sort of thing? I think we can't.
