5lb Burger is Newest Food Concession at Gateway Grizzlies

The Gateway Grizzlies just announced the newest edition to their funky food options. It's called The Beast, which is about as appealing a food word as "warm"

From the press release:

The Beast features five pounds of Holten Meat Black Angus ground chuck marinated in Andria’s steak sauce topped with bacon and pepper jack cheese and placed between a McArthur’s Bakery Hamburger Roll. Additional toppings are available including fresh produce from Eckert’s Farm and horseradish mayo from Keller Farms. “Great food comes from great ingredients,” said Grizzlies General Manager Steve Gomric. “We took the best ingredients in the St. Louis area and put them into this burger.”

The Beast will be available for purchase through the Grizzlies catering department or fans can elect to purchase 1/15 of The Beast at the Great Grizzlie Grill. “Five pounds of meat, fresh produce, how can you go wrong,” continued Gomric. “Try the burger and you will see the results are fantastic.”

The Grizzlies start their 10th season in the Frontier League on May 21st. Season Ticket plans are on sale now. Call the GCS Ballpark Box Office 618-337-3000 so you can eat a Beast at every home game.

Man v Food at Gateway Grizzlies Tonight!

Adam Richman of Man vs. Food (Travel Channel) will be at GCS Ballpark tonight (Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009) to "take on" the Gateway Grizzlies signature "Baseball's Best Burger" and "Baseball's Best Nachos." I abhor the phrase "take on" in a sentence about food. Perhaps that is why I have never watched this show (though I will look for this episode).

In case you forgot, or don't live in southern Illinois, “Baseball’s Best Burger” is a quarter pound burger with sharp cheddar cheese and two slices of bacon, all between each side of a Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut.
The nachos, new this season, are tri-color tortilla chips with seasoned philly beef steak, flame roasted onions and peppers, and Monterrey Jack cheese sauce.
Both items can be found at the Great Grizzlie Grill, located down the third base line at GCS Ballpark.

Camden Riversharks Peanut-Free News is Everywhere

I can't believe how many papers picked up this AP story: Don't buy me peanuts and Cracker Jack: NJ park offers peanut-free section for allergic fans.

I mean, it's interesting but you'd think this was something new. It's not. The Twins and their minor league affiliates have been doing it for years. Plus, in Camden (the Riversharks are part of the indy Atlantic League) the Peanut-Free "section" is a mere 25-person suite (#319) that they converted into a hermetically sealed bubble you must enter through a tunnel only to be opened thirty minutes before the first pitch, and fifteen minutes after the last out. I'm kidding. It's cool. Go Riversharks!

Gateway Grizzlies AYCE Night includes Pierogies

The Gateway Grizzlies are teaming up with Mrs. T’s Pierogies to present the first-ever All You Can Eat night at GCS Ballpark.

All tickets on Wednesday July 2nd will cost $12 and will include a menu of Mrs. T’s Pierogies, hot dog, small popcorn, small nachos, fountain soda and small bottled water. The "free" food will be available through the seventh inning stretch at the main concession stand.

Mrs. T’s Pierogies will offer a buy-one get-one free promotion throughout the entire 2008 season, and the Grizzlies will still honor the special during the July 2nd game.

That's not super exciting. How about this: zebras and unicorns are welcome at Campanelli Stadium on days not ending with the letter ‘y.’

Gateway Grizzlies Specialty Items

As you may recall from last season, the Gateway Grizzlies have some interesting food in their ballpark. They consider many of their offerings to be "Baseball's Best"

We already mentioned Baseball’s Best Soft Preztel. Here's the rest of the list:

• Chili Cheese Dog: A Farmland 8:1 hot dog smothered in chili and topped   with shredded cheddar cheese. It is available all season long.

 

• Buffalo Chicken Sandwich: Buffalo chicken strips layered on a fresh   baked bun then smothered in Swiss cheese and ranch dressing. Grilled onions   are optional and it is available all season long.

 

• Bratchos: A diced bratwurst marinated in tangy buffalo sauce placed on   top a boat of tortilla chips and nacho cheese sauce. It is available from June   19^th to June 27^th.

 

• Porksteak and Sweet Tea: A grilled porksteak smothered in   barbecue sauce and served with a cup of sweet tea. It is available from July   1^st to July 3^rd.

 

• Twinkie Dog: A deep fried Twinkie is cut open and a Farmland 8:1 hot   dog is deep fried then placed in the middle. It is available from July   11^th to July 13^th.

 

• Taco Dog: A deep fried Farmland 8:1 hot dog is placed in a crispy taco   shell and topped with your choice of shredded cheese, sour cream, and taco   sauce. It is available from July 21^st to July 23^rd.

 

• Philly Cheese Steak Nachos: Tortilla chips draped with shredded steak   and topped with Cheese-Wiz. It is available from July 27^th to   August 4^th.

 

• Crazy Corn: Popcorn mixed with Peanut Butter M&M’s. It is   available August 19^th to August 24^th.

 

• Super Pierogies: Mrs. T’s Pierogies topped with chili, shredded   cheddar cheese, and diced onions. It is available from August 29^th   to September 3^rd.

Baseball's Best Concession Item Needs Your Vote

The Grizzlies are looking to make way for the newest "Baseball’s Best" concession item and need your help.

In order to keep Baseball’s Best Grand Slam in tact, the Grizzlies will remove one item from the current menu.

A vote will take place on the Grizzlies website, www.grizzlies.com to choose which one of the four items will be removed. The poll will run from Wednesday, October 17th until Monday, December 10th.

"Baseball’s Best" items started in 2004 when "Baseball’s Best Hot Dog" was introduced. It consisted of a 1/5 pound Farmland 8 inch All Beef Black Angus Hot Dog, topped with two strips of freshly cooked bacon, 1 oz. Sautéed Onions, 1 oz. Sautéed Sauerkraut and ½ oz. Cheddar Cheese Sauce, all on a fresh baked bun.

In 2005, the "Swiss Brat" was added to the lineup. The "Swiss Brat" was made up of a Landshire Bratwurst with a slice of Swiss cheese in the middle of it. The cheese was then melted and 1oz. of Sautéed Sauerkraut was placed on top.

The following year, "Baseball’s Best Burger" arrived and quickly made a name for itself. The item consisted of a thick and juicy burger topped with sharp cheddar cheese and two slices of bacon. The burger was then placed in between each side of a Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnut.

Lastly, came "Baseball’s Best Slider". "Baseball’s Best Slider" utilizes a thin-sliced, steam-grilled, square-shaped burger topped with cheese and grilled onions that is then breaded and deep-fried.

Israel Baseball League Opening Day(s), and Inagural Season

Opening Day is Sunday, June 24, 2007 at 6pm (that's 11 hours from now). The Modi'in Miracle will face the Petach Tikva Pioneers at Yarkon Sports Complex. On Monday June 25, the Ra'anana Express play the Tel Aviv Lightning at 5:30pm at Sportek, and the Netanya Tigers play the Bet Shemesh Blue Sox at 6pm at Gezer Field. The IBL has 6 teams. Here's some SG-related info from their site: With the quality of players we expect to attract, we are going to be able to provide a high-caliber level of play, probably most akin to Rookie League/Class A ball in the U.S. Unlike most spectator sports in Israel, however, the emphasis will be on baseball as a source of entertainment for the entire family. There will be plenty of pre-game, post-game and between-inning entertainment throughout each game. Also, food offerings are emphasized far more than at most American sports stadiums (all strictly kosher, of course). Besides traditional baseball food, there are barbecue stations interspersed at various spots along the perimeter. Healthier food items are also offered, as is a wider array of desserts. The reason for this is that baseball in Israel is truly meant to be a family affair, and that includes mom. Dinner at the ballpark is part of the experience and part of the fun.
