Niman Ranch Sausages in MLB (Diamondbacks, White Sox)

At US Cellular Field you can get Niman meats in the Stadium Club, Diamond Suites, and on the Club Level. At Chase Field you'll find them on the Suites Level (at a cart), and in the suites and clubs.

Diamondbacks open at home v the Padres on Monday, April 5th at 2:10pm
White Sox open at home on the same day at 1:05pm v the Indians.

What to Wear to a Baseball Game

Not sure if you've heard about this but there's a baseball team in NYC called the Mets. I'm hilarious when I can't sleep and have a headache. These days people are so interested in Citi Field's Acela Club restaurant that SG has fallen in the search rankings. That's sad. What's sadder is that I discovered this situation while bragging to someone about being both the #2 and #3. I was. Really. Right up until I actually ate there. Now DC's Verizon Center (Wizards, Capitals, Mystics (WNBA), and Hoyas) is on top of me because apparently baseball season is over. All this happened about two minutes before I decided Colorado was part of the Big Ten. And Mizzou too. And, obviously, Nebraska. When I'm on, I'm on. BTW, Levy's running the Verizon Center Acela Club show (it's Aramark in Queens) and I notice the menu includes Oven Roasted Lemon Garlic Chicken. Sound Familiar?

Back to the intended point of this post. The other day my friend Caryn, the great MetsGrrl, responded to an allegedly burning question: What to Wear to a Baseball Game?. She rounded up some of us girls with blogs with balls and ran a comprehensive answer. If you haven't already clicked away to read it, do it now (link above). It's a good distraction from things like Mr Met coming in to play First Base. I really am hilarious.

Miami Heat Chicken Chop

  Chicken Chop is new to me, but it looked pretty good. Anyone ever give it a go at  Heat game?

TFMJ and I met some incredibly friendly and helpful Levy employees who said it might be a southern thing (the chicken chop and the niceness). The Miami Heat play in an arena named for an airline currently on my hate list (see earlier post) but I can't deny that it was pretty clean in there, and empty for a Saturday game. A Saturday when the beach was a bit too cool even for dumb northerners like us.

And if you thought the action on the courts was intense, check out what goes on in the kitchens, where scores of cooks from around the country scramble to feed some 650,000 people in just two weeks.

The stats are simply mind-boggling: “Last year, we did 230,000 hamburgers and hot dogs, 30,000 pizzas, 5,000 pounds of pasta, 13 tons of steaks, 77,000 pounds of chicken breasts, 4.5 tons of crab and lobster,” said Bill Wilson, director of operations for Chicago-based concessions behemoth Levy Restaurants, which oversees all food service at the Open, as well as at a number of other high-profile national events, including the Kentucky Derby, the upcoming Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa Bay, and all the Pepsi Center activities at this week’s Democratic Convention in Denver.

something else of interest: In 2010, the company [Levy] plans to make its second foray into the coveted New York market, after signing on to handle concessions at the forthcoming Barclay Center, future home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, at developer Bruce Ratner’s controversial Atlantic Yards complex in Prospect Heights.

US Tennis Open: waiters, chefs needed

The U.S. Open kicks off Monday, but the restaurants, bars and cafes that feed the crowds are not quite game ready.

Chicago-based Levy Restaurants, the company that runs the nine eateries and the food village for the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, is conducting on-site job fairs this week to fill out their roster of 1,500 hourly workers.

August is a slow month for the restaurant industry, so Levy is targeting workers who are on summer hiatus from their own restaurant jobs in Manhattan and other parts of the city.

Levy wants to avoid the staffing shortages it experienced the first year it ran the Open’s food service in 2006, when staff worked 36-hour shifts with no sleep. A chef actually fell asleep in the cooler, said Levy Chief Operating Officer Rhonna Cass. Last year, Levy brought in executive chef, Mike Lockard, who is based in Flushing year-round and works exclusively on the U.S. Open.

“It’s like 14 days of Super Bowl, [which is] a sprint,” compared to the marathon that is the U.S. Open, said Ms. Cass.

About a quarter of a million meals will be served at the Open, which will attract approximately 650,000 tennis fans during the two-week event. Many people stay all day and evening to watch the morning play that begins at 11 a.m. and the night sessions that start at 7 p.m. The restaurants cater everything from breakfast pastries to lunchtime Coney dogs to fine-dining fare.

“There’s nothing that compares to this experience,” said Mr. Lockard, who oversees the service of 9.5 tons of porterhouse steaks, 4.5 tons of crab and lobster, 9.5 tons of vegetables and 6 tons of fruit. “It’s like boot camp for the new staff.”

other useful info: The South End Zone (Gates 1 & 4) open three hours prior to game time for access to the Bud Zone and Pepsi Plaza. The Crown Royal Touchdown Clubs, Luxury Suites, and MPS Terrace Suite doors open two hours before kickoff. Gates 2 & 3, and the North End Zone elevator entrance open an hour and a half before kickoff

Food and Drink from Outside the stadium is Prohibited in Jacksonville.

Kids Eat Free August Wednesdays at Chase Field

Kids 12 and younger eat free at Wednesday Diamondbacks games in August. The next Aug/Wed/Home is the 8th when Diamondbacks play the Pirates at 6:40pm. Kids will receive a coupon when they enter the ballpark for a free hot dog or corn dog, popcorn and a soda or milk at select concession stands.

LA Galaxy...what else can I say?

Why do You care that it took David Beckham to get me to write about the Los Angeles Galaxy? Can You name anyone else on the team? Going to their website hardly helps since it’s already covered with pictures of #23. Pretty funny since he’s officially been on the team for less than 24 hours.

Anyhoo, the Home Depot Center, where the Galazy play, has 17 permanent refreshment stands in the facility; 15 refreshment stands in the soccer stadium and two in the tennis stadium.
