Watch World Cup Soccer games in Miami's Design District at what may well be the best restaurant in town: Senora Martinez (#2 Michelle Bernstein). SG really thinks that, the best in Miami, which is why she did not take a picture while in the middle of the dining room, because she's completely overwhelmed by phones in restaurants. She knows she's not alone here. Anyway, throughout the tournament drink and food specials in the upstairs bar starting at 9:30am.

More Yankee Stadium Drink Rail

I'm never going to stop talking about the Drink Rail seating option at Yankee Stadium. This is the one in left field, 200-level (aka Terrace). This might be a $29 ticket. Could be $48. No seat. Drink Rail With Seats is called Bar Stool.

How fancy am I with my Seat #27 for the 27-time-world-champions? And that 27 cup-trash-can is even better. Thank you, guy who can't be bothered to use th actual trash can two feet behind him. Which reminds me we need to talk about the difference between Trash, Compost, and Recycling.

Yankee Stadium Counters, the Drink Rail Kind

Yea! They're all over the 300-level. Free. The 200-level has "seat" numbers which I believe means they're $29 or $48, sold day-of, when they're sold. I did not find one person who paid for one at Game 2. Everyone I asked thought I was kicking them out. Because obviously a girl in a kid's Wang t-shirt taking pictures of Drink Rails is Yankees Security. Anyhoo, they're on the field level too. Those are $75, when they're sold. Hopefully the Free Drink Rails will be shared by everyone, not monopolized by few.

Perjury Killed the Superstars of Baseball

I"ve been thinking about Performance-Enhancing and I'm not convinced those are the right words to use when referring to steroids. A-Rod still had to swing the bat, Pettitte still had to throw the ball, and Giambi still had to fumble at first base.

I'm not saying I'm pro-drugs, but, as the person sitting next to me just pointed out, I'm not anti-drugs. Level playing field? Before 2004 there was "no penalty system" in MLB which means players were free to smoke 'em if they had 'em (though certain drugs were banned). It was a choice. Isn't entertainment the point of professional sports? Don't we like watching people hit further and run faster? It's not like steroids are a magic pill - I couldn't take them and hit and average of 42 home runs per season (A-Rod's 5 years in the Bronx).

Do not take this away from A-Rod (or us). That's dumb. Does this mean Hank Aaron was a better hitter than A-Rod? We can't know. Ever. Even sans steriods we couldn't know. Get over it.

The thing that I do oppose is lying. Bonds, Clemens, McGwire, Sosa, Tejada and the hundreds of other players who are liars are idiots. It's like pretending you don't dye your hair or whiten your teeth. Be honest. It's like anonymous comments on blogs. Why so ashamed? Nothing is more important than being ok with who you are, and manners.

I was just logging on to ask You why Obama didn't unbutton his blazer during last night's 60 Minutes interview, and to ask what You think about his allegedly proposed plan to bring national playoffs to college football when I saw this:

Federal regulators on Monday charged Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban with insider trading for allegedly using confidential information on a stock sale to avoid more than $750,000 in losses. The Securities and Exchange Commission filed a civil lawsuit against Cuban in federal court in Dallas.

The agency alleged that in June 2004, Cuban was invited to get in on the coming stock offering by Mamma.com Inc. after he agreed to keep the information private. The SEC said Cuban knew the shares would be sold below the current market price, and a few hours after receiving the information, told his broker to sell his entire stake of 600,000 shares in the search engine company before the public announcement of the offering.

By selling when he did, Cuban avoided losses exceeding $750,000, according to the SEC. At the time of the offering, Cuban was the largest known shareholder in the Montreal-based company, which later changed its name to Copernic Inc. The SEC is seeking a court judgment against Cuban finding that he violated the antifraud provisions of the federal securities laws, an injunction against future violations, an unspecified civil penalty and restitution of the losses Cuban allegedly avoided.

No Napkins for NASCAR Fans at Daytona

before I say anything, I will say that wetnaps are provided by pretty much every vendor. wetnaps, of course, are fantastic after a meal, but are a pain during a meal as your fingers/hands reek/taste of chemically alcohol.

but I guess that's not a problem for some people. TFMJ, for example, is a pretty big fan of No Napkin.

so here's my question - what restrictions are placed on the people in the infield? the ones in the RVs, I mean. surely their napkins, lids, and straws are more hazardous due to proximity, right? tell me.

NFL + Alcohol = Real Sports Investigation, and something to think about

as you know, TFMJ and I are pretty big fans of HBO's Real Sports. Episode #130 has a story called Drawing a Line that should be of interest to readers of Scoreboard Gourmet.
The title gives nothing away so I will tell you that's it's about how out-of-hand people get drinking at NFL games. I'm not saying that's news but I am thinking how easy it would be for a few idiots to ruin it for the rest of us.

Do you really have to drink until you vomit? Ever, but especially before you're about to watch a game? How is that supporting your team? I mean, the SG has certainly been part of things-getting-out-of-hand but mostly she just hurt herself. If you can't walk, don't go to the stadium. If you need to get sick, don't go to the stadium.

I realize the NFL doesn't inspire much appropriate behavior, but why? seriously. why?

a guy interviewed named Dick Meyer (sp?) - who says he feels like a bad father for bringing his son to a Bears game said "you cannot legislate morality. you also cannot legislate manners"
let's please please please start legislating manners. seriously. personal responsibility is taken to the next level if you have good manners.

more importantly (read: easier to imagine) is this: if these idiots continue to lack self control, the rest of us will be the ones who pay - when professional sports are alcohol-free events. think it won't happen? something's got to happen. and don't forget, all the major beer companies have at least one non-alcoholic offering.

Sausage Eater Makes Better Door Than Window

Manners are important to me. Keep your elbows off the table and keep yourself in the aisle until after the play. Tonight I (and TFMJ and the two guys in front of us) missed A-Rod's 9th HR of the season because this eater of sausage (pictured left) was in such a hurry to get to his seat. Not cool. I'm pretty sure he missed the curtain call, and I Know he did not have a napkin.
