MLB Ballparks Opening Dates

In honor of the Twins new ballpark - Target Field (pictured above and in a lovely album in the middle column) - officially opening tomrrow, Monday April 12th, 2010 when the team takes on the Red Sox at 3:10pm, here's a list of all 30 MLB Ballparks and the year they opened.

What The Red Sox and Rays Have in Common

I know some bloggers who disable their comment sections when the Rays are at Fenway and/or the Red Sox are at Tropicana Field. That's what makes this news so exciting: This season at Tropicana Field you can get a Fenway Frank.
I'm totally misleading you sort of.
Kayem - the Official Hot Dog of the Boston Red Sox and Fenway Park - is now also the Official Hot Dog and Sausage of the Tampa Bay Rays and Tropicana Field.

MLB Home Openers and New Food

Who is Home today and what can You eat at the game? Game start times are local.

Phillies at NATIONALS - look for the Chicken and Waffle Sandwich (fried chicken breast on a waffle with cayenne maple syrup; photo coming; it's open-faced). 1:05pm

Indians at WHITE SOX - Sarah Willis from Niman Ranch will be in the Stadium Club to talk meat and meet fans. 1:05pm

Blue Jays at RANGERS - take it from a guy who really knows his food+sports, DelawareNorthSportservice's Rick Abramson says Go for the Brisket in Arlington. 1:05pm

Cincinnati Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Beer Cans

Today, Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Co. (oldtime Cincinnati brewer, now a subsidiary of Christian Moerlein Brewing Company) released limited-edition Hudy Delight and Hudy 14-K Cincinnati Baseball Hall of Fame commemorative cans featuring this year's inductees Chris Sabo, Pedro Borbon and Tony Mullane. You can buy them (the beers, not the players) in Greater Cincinnati, Dayton and N. Kentucky.

Sabo, Borbon and the late Mullane will be honored at the Great American Ballpark on July 17th before the Reds take on the Rockies at 7:10pm.

Skyline Chili at Goodyear Ballpark for Reds Spring Training

Cincinnatians love Skyline Chili so it's no surprise they desire it in their Spring Training ballparks. What was once a treat in Florida is now a treat in Arizona. I have a photo that refuses to upload properly. Help. Have more to say but want to say it in pictures too.

Stadium Mustard at Indians / Reds Spring Training in Phoenix

Friday March 5th the Indians play the Reds in Phoenix at Goodyear Ballpark. It's the first Spring Training game, and the first time the Reds play in their new home. Pretty exciting, especially when you know there's Stadium Mustard to be had. Ohioans love their mustard. They demanded and the people of Goodyear complied. You can get spicy brown and blah yellow too, but why would you? I'm asking seriously - why would anyone choose any mustard over the good stuff?

Louisvillians Are Big Doughnut Eaters!

They eat more doughnuts per capita than people in any other U.S. city.  Favorite flavor: chocolate

Dayton Dragons New Ice Cream by Graeters

with a name like Graeter's, it has to be grate.
How could I resist? The Dayton Dragons (single-A Reds) now have a namesake ice cream in their ballpark: Dragon Bites. It's also available at all four Dayton-area Graeter’s locations.

Not including the chocolate-covered marshmallow creams and fudge pieces, Dragon Bites (green mint ice cream with Oreos) sounds alot like the only Ben & Jerry's flavor I ever liked: Mint Oreo Cookie, which is now in the Flavor Graveyard (seriously; that's what they call it). If you want to help me try to resurrect it, contact them. I love this pre-Easter theme.

Back to Graeter's for a moment. Is this true: Graeter’s was founded in 1870 and is the oldest continuous ice cream maker in the country. How do we prove this sort of thing? I think we can't.

Scoreboard Gourmet has a new friend. No, we don't have the same taste in baseball teams, or chowder, but we both love baseball, and neither of us is dumb (well, she's not dumb). For those of you who are dumb, or just missed the headline, my new friend is Mets Grrl (aka Caryn), and she's in Cincinnati for the Reds Home Opener v the Mets. That's 1:10pm tomorrow.
It's supposed to snow out there but I'm still a bit jealous thinking of her trip while I sit in my living room flipping back and forth between Braves/Phillies and UConn Women (thank you for taking some of the sting out of last night).

Where to Party for Reds Opening Day (per Cincinnati.com) Opening Day on The Square is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Fountain Square, downtown. It’s free to be there, though you pay for food, drinks (did someone say Christian Moerlein?) and, of course, parking. There will be plenty of music from WSWD-FM (97.3) “The Sound” and live from Mambo Diablo and That Certain Something. If you aren’t headed to the game, watch it on Fountain Square’s big screen.

Other places to go:

• Arnie’s on the Levee (120 E. Third St., Newport): WEBN-FM (102.9) will be broadcasting from Arnie’s, bringing along the Bud Crew with games and prizes. There will be $10 buckets of beer, and the patio will be open, plus a shuttle to and from the game is available. Opens at 10 a.m.

• Arnold’s (201 E. Eighth St.): Breakfast is served beginning at 8 a.m. Jake Speed and the Freddies will be playing, and WNKU-FM (89.7) broadcasts from 8 a.m. to noon.

• Bar Louie (Newport on the Levee): Opening at 10 a.m. with $3 breakfast sliders. Lunch fare includes $1 hot dogs and $5 slider specials.

Skyline Chili at Dayton Dragons Games

 Cincinnati favorite Skyline Chili will be available at Fifth Third Field, home of the Single-A Dayton Dragons (Reds) this season. Dragons’ fans will be able to buy Skyline’s signature Cheese Coneys at all home games. Skyline will be available at Fifth Third Field starting April 4, 2009 for the “Futures Game” when the Cincinnati Reds battle their top minor league prospects.

Food Discounts / Value Meals at Tigers, Reds, Padres, Indians, Cardinals, Brewers Games

Too Long Headlines are the best. Value Meals will be available this season in Milwaukee, Cincinnati, the St. Louis Cardinals’ Busch Stadium, the Cleveland Indians’ Progressive Field, the San Diego Padres’ PETCO Park and the Detroit Tigers’ Comerica Park. Thank you, Sportservice. Each ballpark / team has their own combination of three or four food items. At Rangers Ballpark, for example, the Value Meal consists of a hotdog, soda and either potato chips or fries. In one package at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, you get a hot dog, bag of peanuts, a soft pretzel with cheese and a cookie. And nothing goes better with a hot dog than a soft pretzel with cheese. gag.
