Food Network Steak Sandwiches at Reds, Indians, Tigers, Rangers, Cardinals, Brewers, Padres, Orioles games

The Food Network has a sandwich for MLB fans: the Red, White & Blue Steak Sandwich, served on a French demi-baguette, topped with Maytag blue cheese and Peppadew-pepper mayonnaise. Sounds awesome. Watch the Twins in the first game in their new ballpark today on ESPN. I love that this counts as Golf coverage for me. Think my last Golf coverage was also about iced tea+lemonade. I probably shouldn't have that category. Here's some actual Golf coverage - isn't there enough money in Golf to spray some self-tan on Phil Mickelson's forehead before the Green Jacket ceremony? Kind of a big moment for such a major distraction.

Royals Fan Hit By Hot Dog, Sues Team

Have to thank NY1's Pat Kiernan for bringing this story to my attention: Kansas man sues Royals over Sluggerrr's hot-dog toss.

As you will read, the plaintiff has had two surgeries since last September when a hot dog was "thrown directly" into his eye, NOT with one of those t-shirt guns fitted for hot dogs. We've discussed those here. We like them. But, in this case, the hot dog was hand thrown. Hmm. How hard could that have been? And if you're sitting six rows above the dugout shouldn't you always be aware of flying objects? Yes. Positive there are signs reminding you of that personal responsibility. And how do we know the surgeries are related to the incident. I've been to the doctor twice since last September. Dentist too. Maybe the Yankees should pay for that because the lasy playoff game I attended was Freezing and I had a cold in January.

PETA "Chicken" "Wing" Contest in Miami

If I ever see (well, hear) that Sarah McLachlan Animal Shelter commercial again, ever, it will be too soon. That song does not inspire me to rescue a pet; it enrages me, makes me want to slay things. It's like a chant or an incantation. In fact, it's the perfect song to use in a movie in which the main character was somehow hypnotized and every time he hears that song he goes out and kills people. No. Kills animals. That's perfect. The creators of the ad and Sarah McLachlan are actually creating a corps of animal killers yet they have the perfect alibi, no one will ever suspect them.

Anyway, just when I've had enough of animal rights, PETA tells me about something fantastic: Miami Dolphins running back and vegetarian Ricky Williams judged a pre Super Bowl Faux Chicken Wing Challenge at his restaurant, Proof (in the Z Ocean Hotel, 1437 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach).

You know you're in an intense game when you have time for an encased meat snack. I don't feel bad about it at all... the Raiders have delicious encased meat on offer. Somehow that sounds wrong, but I'm serious. And now back to my main thinking: Yankees Angels Game 1!

Secret Stadium Sauce and Miracle Whip

Did you even know they still made Miracle Whip? Or is that a retro commercial from way back in 2002 when The Rookie came out? Yes, just as I was contemplating Secret Stadium Sauce (the bottle is on my coffee table), a Miracle Whip commercial ran. And, yes, I am watching The Rookie, which is not a great movie, but I want to have something on while Through the Fire (Sebastian Telfair documentary) is taping. That show requires my full attention, and no interruption.

Back to Secret Stadium Sauce. I had high hopes for this highly touted condiment available at Miller Park (created by Sportservice). I'm amazed by the number of people who write in to ask me about it because, well, it tastes like watery-cocktail-sauce-mixed-with-barbeque-sauce. I suspect I can recreate it. In fact, later this summer when I throw a baseball-food-party I will to do a taste test. Great idea. My version will Not have high fructose corn syrup. Hate that stuff.
Thoughts on my plan? Anyone ever do this?

There's a character in The Rookie called Rudy? And underdoggy pitcher. Sheesh.

Wall Street Journal Sports Section

You probablyknow that the Wall Street Journal started running a Sports Section, er, Page, this week. It's the back page of the D / Personal Journal section, which is always a fun read. If you don't know, or don't read the Journal, maybe you should.

Yesterday they mentioned the Manny wigs that the Dodgers can now sell again. Oh, and they mentioned his manymillion contract too. No food in there yet but I'm working on it.
