The Tampa Bay Rays continue to step up their game, food and drink game, that is. I really can't say anything negative about a team that builds wine bars in their ballpark, stadium, enclosure. Really I can't.
Stems! It's not easy to walk around with these mini wine glasses if you expect the beverage to stay inside, but I still love them. Thanks to the Mets fan who contributed to this post. She tells us she very much enjoys the not-dry Fin chardonnay. $9.75. She even offered us a taste but we were too shy to accept. Next time we'll have to do a little wine tasting during the game.

This scares me to a certain degree.
Twins Home Opener Tomorrow - April 6th - 7:10p v the Mariners
He took off his Superbowl ring and handed it to me not two minutes into our Scoreboard Gourmet conversation, and we were drinking the baby 2006 Château Mouton Rothschild at a table with the Baroness. Holy Moly. Life can be amazingly great.
I'm going to write more about Tom. He's currently the publisher of Wine News, an outgrowth of a passion for the beverage that arose during road games in the NFL. As he put it, you have money to spend and you're out in restaurants; the interest blooms.
Wine + the NFL. I know it's springtime and baseball is a major focus for me, but let's discuss. What do You think when I say "Wine + the NFL"?

TFMJ has a picture of the Budweiser Limited Edition Magnum Bottle. We saw it in August in CT but I've not seen one since. Love that these are supposedly the NY Giants.
Located in the South Plaza, between Arthur Ashe Stadium and Courts 10 and 13, Wine Bar Food is an outdoor bar open to any event goer who happens to find an empty seat. There's a giant screen in front of the fountains there displaying match information and one of the matches. It's a great place to sit, and the food's not bad.
TFMJ and I are strangely ready for football. This keeps happening. Last year at this time we were in Cleveland watching the Browns after a wedding. Yikes. It's August. We need to focus.
Thank you 3rd place Marlins for keeping SG on track...
15th, 6:00-9:30p. Join Luis Gonzalez and other special guests for a Florida Marlins Community Foundation benefit, which means live and silent auctions featuring sports memorabilia and other stuff. And, that night Gonzalez's signature 2006 Napa Valley Baseball Blend Red Wine will be unveiled. Exciting.
Hockey players aren't the only ones interested in giving back in interesting ways. Here's a list of available (meaning you can buy them online now for $13.99) MLB Charity Wines:
Abreu's Finest Merlot - it's a 2006 Merlot from San Martin, CA that benefits the Police Athletic League.
CaberReyes (Jose Reyes) - a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon also from San Martin, CA to benefit Major League Players Trust.
Captain's Cabernet(Jason Varitek) - this is a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from Healdsburg, CA that gives to Pitching In For Kids.
Jorge Cabernet (Jorge Posada) - a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from San Martin, CA
benefitting the Jorge Posada Foundation.
Manny Being Merlot(Manny Ramirez) - it's a 2005 Merlot from Lontue Valley, Chile
No Whites? Brian Schneider does have a chardonnay Schneider Schardonnay - (a 2006 Chard from San Martin, CA) - but I don't see it available online. Hmm. This wine exists to benefit Catching for Kids. The MLB site says you can buy these wines in local stores. I have to look around and get back to you on that.
(as in Ray Bourque) and Cambernet (Cam Neely) are two Hat Trick Cellars wines, both produced for the benefit of charities.
Bourque is a 2005 California Merlot. Supposedly it pairs well with 'many' foods. The purchase of this wine sends money to the Celebrities For Charities Foundation, which funds hundreds of small causes. It's $13.99.
Cambernet is a 2005 California Cabernet Sauvignon, "perfect with any grilled meat or Italian dish." Proceeds go to The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care, The Neely House and The Neely Cancer Fund, all of which assist cancer patients and their families during treatment.
Not sure it's currently in stock. :(
Also, sales of Bourque Merlot and Cambernet benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation. This is cool. You can buy these wines from EventWines.com. I'll have to get back to you about how these taste.
I'm not sure why or how the SFGiants Double-A team is in Connecticut. I am sure that Dodd Stadium, home of the Connecticut Defenders, is a fun, nicely-run park.
We were there for one of many pint glass giveaway nights (next one 5/24, then 5/31, 6/14, 6/21). And we hear that June 26th is the Gallo Wine Sampling night.
I have more to say and more pictures to add but needed to get this one up asap: what happens when my mom and buy three beers (Sam Adams though Saturdays are 2-for-$5 Bud days) and share the third? Well, the third becomes a peanut shell receptacle. Thankfully the glass was so full we could easily fish out the shells and enjoy the beer.
No Anchor Steam at Dodd Stadium (SF classic) but they do have Sierra Nevada.
