You know I'm a big fan of bread, but the Charleston RiverDogs (single-A Yankees, who are never home when I'm in Charleston) have a new menu item this season - The Pickle Dog - and it looks amazing. Holy extra-long sentence with two links. Thanks to John for the photo. The RiverDogs sell their Pickle Dog for $3.50 at The Joe (Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park).
Click to find out what else to do while you're in Charleston. Then write in and tell me how delicious is this Pickle Dog (and it is hard to eat? messy?). And, check out the beer festivals at The Joe on May 22 and September 25th.
How do you like that "recycling" behind the fancy taps at the new Beer concession at Yankee Stadium Gate 6 (Field Level)? Ah, Earth Day. It's this week, you know, and every week.
Anyhoo, $8.50 bottle of Becks, Blue Moon, Goose Island, Magic Hat #9, Longtrail Blackberry Wheat, Hooker Blonde Ale, Widmer Hefeweizen, Land Shark Lager, Leffe Blonde, Corona, Heineken, Presidente. $11 drafts of Goose Island, McSorley's Pale Ale, Hoegaarden, Stella
Where in heck is my Beef on Weck photo? From Buffalo? From Schwabl's? Grr. Here's what I learned in Buffalo - it's not Beef on A Weck, It's Beef on Weck. And it's prime rib.
Weck = a Kummelweck roll which is basically a hard roll (not hero) with coarse salt and caraway seeds on top. It's delicious. I should probably give Rochester some credit here too - it's a Western NY thing. And now you can get one at Yankee Stadium, here called USDA Prime Beef Steak Sandwich Served On A Weck Roll. See why I don't believe the staff when they tell me it's Lobel's? Why would Lobel's not be mentioned in the name?
ScoreboardGourmet is the kind of person who what-ifs. It's not good, I know, but What If I'd started my Yankee Stadium 2010 Food Tour on the Field Level? What If I'd walked to right field first? What If the Yankees had actually sent me some sort of food guide to prepare me? Well, none of that matters, does it? I did not get to eat the anti-Lobel's at Yankee Stadium...this time. But I will.
Until then I can tell you that NYY Steak, the restaurant, has a little outpost in a space I'm pretty sure was some sort of taqueria last year. Turn right at Field Level when you enter through Gate 6. The staff at NYY Steak Express tells me their steak sandwiches, also $15, are made with Lobel's meat. This information needs fact-checking.
I was walking out by the Yankee Stadium Composting center on River Avenue the other day. Ha. Totally kidding. Imagine that? Let's talk Compost at Yankee Stadium. Here's a lesson from the EPA: Compost is organic material that can be used as a soil amendment or as a medium to grow plants.
The other day, waiting for the dryer, I picked up a People mag at the laundromat. The cover said something about Kate Hudson trying to get ARod to elope. They're back together, I thought? Then thought, why do I know that they're apart? Why do I know anything? Yuck. Then I noticed the mag was from last fall. Now a friend tells me ARod is dating Cameron Diaz. I don't want to know that either. Yuck. What I do want to know is what's happening at Yankee Stadium. Pictured above is the new addition to the photo-history. Ah, 2009, I remember it like it was last year.
My first beer of the season, a delicious Czechvar, 189 calories, $11 from Beers of the World outposts all over Yankee Stadium, maybe the greatest new thing at the home of the Yankees. Who doesn't love the option to easily purchase beer that tastes good? If you want to get technical, the first beer I tasted came from the cup pictured below. That's what you get when you ask very very very nicely because you want your friend to try the beer and make sure she likes it (she did). Why, then, did I get the mini cup? Because I made a bad pour (all foam) and didn't want to subject her to it. All manners am I. Get Yankees Tickets at StubHub.
My fan guide says The Malibu Terrace Deck is located directly above Gate 6 on the Terrace/Grandstand Level (aka 300-level). My eyes tell me The Malibu Terrace Deck is near section 310. The Yankee Stadium Help people say they don't know.
My fan guide says The Malibu Terrace Deck will have a full bar and grilled food. My eyes tell me there will be coconut rum. The Yankee Stadium Help people (when very much led) say The Malibu Terrace Deck will be like the Jim Beam Suite Outdoor Section (pictured below) except that it will be open to the public. They cannot say what the people-max will be. They cannot say if the area will be roped off. They cannot say much about The Malibu Terrace Deck.
